Just following on from a previous post earlier, how hard do you hit your clubs?

Let's say 100% is full on throwing the kitchen sink into it and anything less is up to you?

As per my previous post I think I'm 90% with a committed (not lazy) controlled swing.

I'm trying desperately to do no more than what feels 80% and, so far, not losing any distance as I hit it sweeter

Chris

I try to have a controlled backswing and really acceperate through the ball. As Homer says 95%, not absolutely flat out but pretty close. Suppose it's just a bit sibjective to say the least but as hard as I can without losing the feeling that I'm in control of the swing if that makes sense......apart from long drive holes that is where I give it the kitchen sink as well and hook it 200. :D

I hit most shots at about 90% but i tent to hit my pitching wedge or 9 iron full on if im trying to hit a green. my pitching wedge goes about 135 when i hit it 100% and its a shot i love to play. I know i have to be carfull not to hit it so hard that i get through it too much and spin like a top. every other shot i hit the last thing in my pre shot mantra is tempo tempo tempo!!

oh PS for a wile last month i was hitting my driver 101% it was crazy fun and wow to watch and i was hitting the ball about 300 yards but when i looked at my stats on my golfshot GPS i realised i was hitting 25% of drives to the right. I am now hitting about 90% and have dropped that to about 7% right.

Over time I have learnt not to hit clubs at all, just make sure that I complete my backswing and swing through smoothly. If I swing too hard I tend to pull or hook so I guess its about 60-70%

Like I said in the previous thread, the only time I give it maximum attack is if I'm trying to carry something dubious with the driver, such as the lake at 18 or if I'm trying to drive the 9th (for no reason other than I'm desperate to do it one of these days! 332, slight dog leg right, it's still about 320 straight at it, and pretty much all uphill, does usually have a following wind though, so on a hot, dry day, low humidity, with a stiff breeze I reckon I can get there, I've been close, need to find about 20 yards though, the right conditions and a good bounce will do it, I think).

That swing will see me coming off my back foot completely though (and grunting as it happens!), one of my playing partners remarked on Sunday "I'm sure that's cheating...", my normal swing isn't anything like that much effort, the takeaway is quite slow (if it isn't I'm in trouble) to the top, starts to accelerate from the top but really it's all in the last two feet where I really hit it. I couldn't really put a figure on what that is compared to the full-on effort, I guess around 85%?

I know what I couldn't do is hit anywhere between those two, ie between 85%-100% (if 100% is the off the feet swing), I just don't have that level of control, at 85% I'm hitting it as hard as I sensibly can, the other thing is after I've thrown all sense out the window!

Funny how another subjective thread brings out 135 PW shots that is on a par with a pro swing and 300 yards seems so passe these days :D

I know I can't hit a PW 135 yards, usually around 110-115, I might be able to push it 120 if I hit it but with those clubs it's more likely just to make it go further up into the air, for 135 I'd be stuck between a 9 and an 8, 140, I'd go to the 8, 130 the 9, I'd have to decide based on the wind. I'd probably have to decide which way I'd rather be five yards out and go with that.

if i get my drive right on the 11th at AVGC i always hit my PW 135 to the green. im was not meaning to be a dick about it, im not a great golfer, but i do hit the ball a long way.

tricky one this like, I wud like to think i am controled most of the time but i have a few times when il go 100%

1) wedge shhots that require a slightly longer yardage that a full SW. I put it back in stance and bash hell out of it. Even tho its 100% i can control its accuracy.

2) 13th hole at my course. 350Yard par 4 straight up hill, i mean pratically up a cliff! I close my stance and hit it up the 14th fairway with a raking hoook with a john daly style attempt. cant really go 100% with driver too often with fear of killing someone haha

My old mucker on here HTL is a long hitter and even he wouldn't hit a wedge 135 yards or meters.

Not with you tongue stuck up his arse all day.

Perhaps that's why he sold all his gear :D

I swing at about 90%, the 100%'s only come out when I am attacking greens as I find I dont get more distance but rather more height and more spin and stop.

If i go for 70% (or less) in a shot I tend to leave the club face open and miss right.
