• We'd like to take this opportunity to wish you a Happy Holidays and a very Merry Christmas from all at Golf Monthly. Thank you for sharing your 2025 with us!

How far behind is your course.

Never really been impressed with the greens at Belton Woods at any time of year. Down the road at Belton Park they are running fine. Bit of work on them recently means they are a little bobbly but the pace is great and they will be spot on by April

They seemed pretty good at the end of June last year when we were there. Too fast for my liking but the rest of our group enjoyed them - according to the head greenkeeper were running faster than at the Scottish Open. Will be going back again for the last week of June again this year (if anyone wants a game I can get you on cheap with my De Vere points - £15 midweek or £9 twilight I think it is) so hopefully by then they'll be decent again.

I'm really impressed with ours in great condition. The tees and greens were all done about 4 weeks ago and just starting to settle in nicely. Had a new head green keeper at end of the season who really seems to know his stuff. First comp this weekend back off the tees. It's going to be in great nick this year.

ours are about 6 years behind
greens are a joke
most often heard phrase on our greens is looked good in the air
holes still left from last years hollow coring
rabbit holes in greens
yet you moan and nobody listens
some of the worst greens i have played on

AVGC is looking fantastic. Some scrubby lies if you look for them but most of the rough is lush. Fairways hardening and the greens are SOLID!

Same with ours - need a good water and good growth - too early to be this solid and no give in them. Will quickly lose them and they will start to crack and get to compact in areas.

Thankfully some rain is arriving.

Oooo ye, rain for the next five days, that will help.

Ours are in good nick just tough to get a ball to bite!

Yeah sounds about right for the greens around our area - Downs and Buckingham are the same, Aspleys are like concrete

Ours are a joke.

Our 4th actually looks like a cricket wicket, a green they spent 30k rebuilding 14 months ago has been totally lost. I actually played really well today 38 points but it could have been easily 40+.

Almost every green is mud, very tight and compact and well rolled but mud. The club championship qualifiers are tomorrow and players have asked for it to be postponed, the experiment of playing on greens through the winter has been proved to be a very bad idea.

The only thing left at our place to be sorted is the greens. They have held up well over the winter but there are some bald and bumpy patches still to be sorted out. Other than that it's in better shape than normal as they haven't been able to get the heavy mowers and machinery on the course for most of the winter so haven't damaged the fairways with them.
If they rolled, hollow tine and sand/seed them they will be superb in a few weeks but I can't see it happening as our head greencreeper is out of action with two herniated discs in his neck!

We're probably a little ahead....
Last few years we've either had snow or hard frosts, neither of which we've had this Winter. Yes it was wet, we had over 4 inches more rain than usual but the course has, by and large coped reasonably well. The fairways are dry enough not get the mowers going, everything is looking quite good.
Treatments to greens and fairways have begun, the last few years this hasn't been possible until after the greens have decided.
The Greens are rolling reasonably and should only get better.....

The greens are about as good as Ive known them to putt on at the moment, bit too firm to take a shot though, albeit everything will change in the next few days, bit of rain and they are tining the greens Tuesday I believe, good timing for a sore back and a few days rest albeit ill be itching by Thursday no doubt lol.

Course is visually excellent, albeit there are a few bare patches up close, thankfully they havent cut the fairways too short too early this year so they are being a chance to establish some growth. Mosdt of the new tees look excellent and expecvt they will be in play in the near future

Sounds like it's time I took a trip...!!!

Ours is in pretty good condition. It just needs the fairways to be cut and give the holes some definition. Greens are coming back after moss issues over the last few years. The bunkers are an issue, especially the depth of sand. Some have a decent depth and others barely cover the base

Ours are about 3 weeks behind, mainly due to late tining and lack of growth. Still bobbly, missed an eighteen incher yesterday:angry:

I believe Sherwood Forest are thinking of re-naming as Sherwood - lost hundreds of trees a few weeks ago in the strong winds.
