How did you get on this weekend?

First round in 6 months after ACL reconstruction so was just happy to be playing, was 5 over my handicap so not my best round. Although i did birdie our long par 4 after putting my drive in the trees and having to chip out, 8 iron from 145 straight in the hole :whoo:

Started playing again 18 months ago after a very long break from golf.Have been stuck on 22 for months so resolved in 2014 to practice more, play less and have a series of lessons.
Played last Friday - opened with 4 pars and was +5 for the front nine - very chuffed. Made hard work of the easier back nine ( distracted by foolish thoughts of glory perhaps) and finished with +18 for the round. Was really pleased.
A question on kit. I have been playing with some 2nd hand Callaway x20 irons. Is it time to start thinking of something more recent?

Thats a sweet comeback!

If you can afford the latest irons and want them go for them, if not then the X20s should be fine (assuming the shaft is suitable). Plenty decent enough iron and iron head technology not changed that much since they were made

We had all 18 holes open, but still a bit muddy in places. Rather windy. I only scored 29 points in a Stableford comp on Sunday morning, but at least we got round before it started to rain. Another 0.1 onto my handicap! :(

Played on a soaking wet hotel course on holiday. Some of the fairways we were playing from mud, so it was tricky.

Where there was grass, or from the tees, I hit my irons really well, though I struggled a bit for distance control with the shorter clubs - ball striking was good, though. I also putted reasonably well with my new putter on very shaggy greens.

Downside was the short game. I chunked a good few chip shots and couldn't build a score at all. I'm confident some practice will cure that, though.

If I keep hitting the ball like this all year and get my short game in order, I'll be pretty happy.

Played in the Saturday stable ford on the Wandlebury course, teed off just as the fog/mist cleared, a blob and 2 single pointers saw me turn with 16 points. Bit disappointing as the driver was a bit wonky, my old habit of low hooky drives seemed to be coming back. Scrambled well on a few holes to keep it together. Back nine was better, sorted the driver out and was looking good to make 36 points until I hooked one on 18 into the bushes. Parred it with the second ball to salvage a point and 35 points overall. One of the guys I played with (5hcp) shot level par for 41pts, it was a pleasure to watch him knock it round.

played again today (old course), drove it much better, turned with 43 shots and 18 points, with a birdie. Then came back in 39 for 22 points, and a total of 82 (40pts). Pretty pleased, especially having kept the ball in play with no blobs, got my first medal comp on the old course this Saturday.

Had the day off on Friday so went for a practice knock and as I posted on another thread took 38 on the front and 48 on the back.

The writing was well and truly on the wall for Saturdays comp and scored a pathetic 19 points for 14 holes. Didn't have the heart to go out again on Sunday.

Played and beat the best matchplay player at the club in the mens knockout singles on Saturday morning with a first birdie on out opening hole to boot.

Played for the first time in 6 months at Woodhall Spa. Course was in fair condition considering. The greens were not too good though which is to be expected. Irons were okay. Fatted a fair few and spanked a few too. Putter was horrid. Would have won the East Mids section if I had bothered to walk back to the 8th tee and hit a provisional.

If Carling did Sundays..............

Had to tee off at 07:00 in the swindle as I was invited to the Wembley cup final courtesy of the Centurion and we were leaving the club at 10:30.

Played probably the best golf in a very long time. I'm currently leading the Order of Merit and my Swindle handicap is 3.8 so very tough to keep scoring well, but I was level gross after 6 and 2 ahead of H/C.
Slight blips at 7,8,9 where I hit good approach shots but just missed the green led to 3 bogies so closed the front 9 on 17.

Immediate birdie on 10, then all pars except for a bogie on a shot hole, so still only 3 over going down the last......only had 150 into the green but somehow let one slide and ended up plugged and below my feet in the green side bunker pin high.
My only blob of the day and the only cloud on a very good card. Felt pretty much in control all the way round.

35 points was still enough to take the win and extend my lead in the OOM, but copped a 1.5 shot cut, so now off 2.3 in the swindle...:o

It's going to be hard to keep my nose in front off that H/C, but golf is in a very happy place right now. Just need to do the same in the club qualifier Sunday where I get an additional 4 shots.....should be a doddle...

Wembley was amazing..... hospitality in the Bobby Moore suite with amazing seats. Ray Clemence was on our table and was a great host.

The match was exciting and the quality of goals incredible. I could have done without the last one as I had a man City 2-1 bet on it....
managed to shake hands with most of the City team after they collected their medals we were that close to them......

Superb weekend!!
Surprised no one else has mentioned your post but you can really go off folk quickly

What a day for you and what a club you have joined.

My weekend was half decent with a good round at kenilworth with fish, kenilworth is a lovely course and well worth anyone trying to get a game there. Yesterday at woodhall I was quite pleased with how I played considering I had a bug/hangover.

If you had off finished the 8th I dread to think what score you could have had with that dodgy handicap you have bought

Played today at Marriott Dalmahoy, West course. It was a lovely morning as well, no wind about. The course was a little wet in places due to the rain the past few days but dried out as we went on. Second round this year having played last Friday. Shot 86 back then and 90 this time round so fairly happy. I have a goal of shooting 90 or below every round now so good start so far.

Need to work on my short game as my putting let me down on a few holes but there are still 3 winter greens in operation which are not in the best state now.

Will be back out again next week though!

4 weeks ago after a great lesson my game collapsed. It's took about ten range sessions to get through a case of the Sherman's where I can hit a ball over 100 yards! Didn't hold much hope for Sunday especially as the course was on 13 temps, but hit the ball well and slapped it round to 33 points, which in strong winds playing on very small and poor temps I was pretty chuffed with,

Working from home today and for mugged into taking my son into work in Dundee at 5pm so decided that I would head to the St Andrews Links driving range - gorgeous evening and a lot of decent golfers whacking the ball into the darkening skies.

Took me a while to get the new swing changes working but I was hitting nice semi controlled draws well out there (for me) by the end - don't think I'll get to the range tomorrow but apart from that I'll make sure I'm out hitting balls every day or evening for the next couple of weeks
