Getting exasperrated with this website. Been looking to find out weekend scores since yesterday. The website has been down all day for 'essential repairs', now it's back up online it wont load.
This is not unusual, seems to be out of order at least half the time you try to log on.
Anyone else able to access it today?
Time they got some IT people there who know how the internet works!

<RANT>I'm sat in the office at our club waiting for a call back from Club Systems (the outfit that also run howdidido) because we ran a big open comp at weekend and the software will now not allow me to print a 36 hole aggregate sheet, nor will it let me print the away scores letters from yesterday. I have been waiting a while for this call. They must be busy, and I for one am not surprised. As a former software developer the program is one of the worst examples of amateur programmers getting completely out of their depth. How they are market leaders is impossible to fathom. Even basic things like tabbing from field to field goes in a random order, there's hardly any error capture and the system just crashes as soon as you do anything 2non standard" (which is what users do). I think their testing regime is obviously pretty non existent. While waiting I tried howdidido just to have a look how up to date we were given the problems and I couldn't get in either. </RANT>

Serious question: Does anyone out there have first hand experience of Handicap Master software. does your club use this? Is it easy? Do members get on with it OK? etc etc.

Very frustrated and bored, Blackpool.

Birdieman the website is a total and utter joke,it aint like it only happens the odd time as it is like this 90% of the time.

How they keep on getting away with god only knows...a shambles of a website.

Seemed to go down yesterday afternoon.

I tried to look at our results last night with no sucess. Still no joy. I might have to go up to the club tonight and have a look at the notice board, the old fashioned way.

Trouble is if it's bad news I might be in an emotionally distraught state and unable drive home safely due to the shock

Could have hit 13 for the first time in 20 years  :(

I agree with all the above.

I've worked in IT for 20+ years now for a major corporate.

If we provided systems this poorly designed with this many outages we'd all be out the door. It seems even when it is up it runs so slow it's nearly un-usable so might as well be down.

The need for the product is clearly there, the implementation is clearly lacking.

Maybe a hole in the market for someone to offer a better alternative. Not sure how many clubs would switch if they have had to fork out for the software already. Not sure how this is licensed.

What's to be upset about with a cut Dave??!! :D ;) ;)

I agree with everything that has been said. Its a great idea in principle but the actual performance makes it a mockery. Even if you mail them with a problem they never come back to you. A good product spoilt by jokers

My club uses the Handicap Master software and no one has a bad word to say about it. I was on the committee last year and used it every week to put in scores or produce competition draws. It gives you some interesting reports such as eclectic scores, birdies over the season. But the best thing is probably that any handicap adjustments are done as soon as you enter the scores. Once all the scores for the day are entered it produces a list of all changes that need to be made, these are then used to ammend the handicap sheet. This means that everyones handicap is update after each medal round they play, no waiting about for days until it changes.

Also if you plug your laptop into a tv people can see a scrolling leader board. We only use this for weekend competitions as the bar is usually busy and people like to see the scores coming in. It usually provides some good banter too.

I've just popped up the clubhouse to pick something up from my locker and had a look at the weekends comp results. I came 6th with 38pts winner 41pts and got a 0.4 cut so i'm now down to 22.

Just managed to get HDID to spit out my results finally.

Came 5th and got a .9 cut. So now down to 16.9. That's 3 cuts in a row now :D

And that gives me 7 more points for our order of merit which moves me up to 3rd in the club rankings.

Should have won it this weekend though. Shot net 69, winner was net 66. But I triple bogeyed the last two. The par 3 17th and the par 4 18th which is SI 18. Criminal really.

Doh.

Our club uses Master Scoreboard. It doesn't give a massive amount of stats, but you can look at gross results, nett results, a breakdown of scores on each hole for the comp and also see anyone's handicap progression, competition results and individual scorecards.

By 4.30 Saturday afternoon the results were on the internet for the days 4BBB. If it were singles the handicaps would've been altered as well.

We just changed over and I loved it - for 2 hours - now I am well fed up.

Playing an open tomorrow - think I may be in with a chance of a .3 which would take a shot off me - but cant get on HDID - gotta drive totally the wrong direction to check the sheet, then drive past my house to go to the open.

Not impressed as tHDID has been down all day and previously its been so slow I was wondering if my wireless card was going wonky!!!!

Good job I didn't wait at the club, they've just rung me back now.... problem is I'm at work so I've got them to ring the secretary. To be fair to them the support are usually very good but on the down side they need to be because they must get rung a lot. I'm definitely going to investigate switching to Handicap Master so any more feedback on that would be useful.

Hi,

I am handicap secretary at my club and use Handicap Master. It is excellent, provides the updates as soon as the all scores are entered and you apply them. It also can update to the CDH automatically, provide some interesting stats (most improved player, birdie trees) and run OOM, eclectics, matchplay knockouts, etc. Also, support is first rate and if you have any ideas for improvements you can send them to Handicap Master and they usually are folded in to future software revisions.

Birdieman and all others...have spent ages trying to register my comments/complaints re their hardware/software
crashing, not working, not paying the leccy bill or whatever!
I have seriously had more fun with the tax man, what a stupid site to navigate and wait 4/5 minutes to get thro on to different pages to register a complaint!!
And them I'm told that I'll get a reply in 48 hours(WTF)
Service is very poor, but HEY,everything will be sorted in 2/3 weeks!
Crap service

Jimbo  :D
