No not from Subway

I have a Callaway TC tour spec 5 wood that has a hot melt port in the sole towards the toe.

I also have the 3 wood in the same model which is no TC and feels completly different to swing. Ideally I'd like the 3 wood to play the same as the 5 wood.

Can any club builder add in a hot melt port or is it a bit more specialised to keep the club head conforming?

Any help appreciated

there's various different ways to hot melt without a port. I've seen a person remove the shaft and drill into the head. what makes you think the other club has a hot melt?

hard to tell if its actually had the melt done. the two reasons why its done is to bring the swing weight of the club up and/or to dull the sound and feel of the club.

you'd need to go to a club fitter and he'll check the swing weight and match it to your 3 wood if the 5 wood was in fact changed

Thanks for that pal.

Its definitely 100% different. You can feel it through the seeing and at impact.

The head feels much heavier and feels more solid at impact.

I was under the impression, probably got the wrong end of the stick with hot melts.

I thought it was a rudimentary way of moving the cog. Just like the movable weights in modern golf clubs. Just a cleaner way than sticking lead tape to the underside of the club.

No idea really.

I thought it was an easy way for the manufacturer to get the swing weight of each head identical, to cover for a really shoddy out of control manufacturing process.

Adding a hot melt port would make the club non-conforming!

HM ports are normally built-in at manufacture to heads likely to be used on tour (where SW and sound tweaking was more likely to happen) - or marketed as such. That way they are conforming. It used to be one of the ways to identify 'Tour' heads - when they were deemed to be superior!

Pretty certain that is not true.

You can easily drill out the plug inside the hosel and add hot melt through that directly into the head. Simple plug and it's still 100% conforming.

That's possibly true - or perhaps not! But it was not the 'plug' I was posting about. I was posting about one like that in the pic in the OP.
