Hooky 3 wood

I bought a RBZ 3 wood from a guy at work and off the tee it was great, no problems with a hook however to hit it accurately off the fairway with a good launch angle was difficult to say the least. I spoke with several fellow golfers who had all experienced similar issues except one guy who had the tour version.

As a result I sold it and bought a straight necked Cobra S2 3 wood on sale from Clubhouse Golf. It was best decision I've made as I can hit this from any lie and it is deadly accurate and effortless to use. It's 15yds short of the RBZ off the tee but in the scheme of things it doesn't make a huge difference as I have ultimate confidence in being able to hit a good second shot with the Cobra if needed whereas the RBZ would have been a recipe for disaster.

If you want a go to club for when the driver is playing up the RBZ does a good job however if you want a club to hit off the fairway go for a traditional shallow faced 3 wood.

Sell the RBZ and get the Titleist 910F 3 wood. Great club and you have the option to set it as you want. I'm dying to get one but HID want's the bathroom done first!

Until this summer my 3 wood has been a happy passenger in the bag, content in watching all the other clubs depart and return, then I decided it was time to pay its way and tried it off the fairway: whoosh the ball is switching on the afterburners. So last week on a 200yrd par 3 I thought this is working off the grass lets see if it works off the tee. I tee it up and hooked. Being on my own I reload moving he ball back in my stance hook, back a bit more less of a hook, when the ball was getting almost central to my stance I think that I was just getting frustrated so accepted the 5th ball I played. Maybe if it behaves when played off the deck, I should Tee it down off the Tee
I know quite a few folks where their 3 wood just comes along in the bag for the ride

A snap hook in 99% of cases is caused by the fear of hooking.
"The last time I used this club I snap hooked it"
So what happens is when you swing it you are trying not to hook it.
THIS CAUSES THE HOOK
Try and get to a range and hit a few balls with it and get used to hitting it by turning hard through the shot.
When you are scared of it, you stop turning, the hands flip the club passed your body......snap hook.
Keep turning hard and the hands will never overtake the body.

I agree with this, my RBZ 3 wood was purchased as an alternative to the driver off the tee, I had an AG voucher and used it when the price dropped in the spring. On a different occasion, I remember having a conversation with somebody at AG about RBZ fairways and they were saying that the standard version is easier to hit than the Tour version, which might be the case from the tee but certainly not from the fairway. The RBZ 3W standard has a head like the old drivers and I find it a little unwieldy on the fairway, whereas the 5W allied to the smaller Tour head is much more comfortable. Just out of interest they guy that hits the 3W Tour ok, is it the HL version with 17 Deg loft or the standard 14.5 Deg? I'd imagine the HL version is more forgiving.

I've got a Taylormade rocketballz 3 wood with a stiff shaft off the shelf from AG about 15 months ago. It's like brand new and to cut a long story short its hardly been used as it scares the life out of me. I hit the ball miles (not always straight) and bought it as a go to club when the driver is being naughty but I hit 1 in 4 good tee shots with it. Now I play a draw naturally with all my tee shots but the bad shot with this is a huge snap hook or even a top!! I've read somewhere that they are 2 inches longer than all other 3 woods out there, so isn't that the reason as to why I'm having trouble with it. I am seriously considering selling it which would be a shame as its in mint condition but I just want a nice go to club that I can rely on!!! Help please......

Whilst lessons will definitely help its well known club manufacturers are lengthening shafts a playing with strengthening lofts to validate their "longer than ever" claims. RBZ lofts are stronger right across the range including irons and their shafts are longer than standard which will make most of us more wayward. Spend your cash on lessons and do not be hoodwinked by the marketing departments whose job it is to move stock by luring you in with ridiculous claims of longer.

You have just given me a moment of revelation!
That explains so much.
Where were you when I needed you?:D

I've a hookey 4 and a hookey driver - but that's due to me not completing my backswing and snatching at the the start of my downswing. And so on address I tell myself to pause before I start my downswing. The pause will be minimal but it feels a lot and does let me complete backswing properly.

The driver is solid at the moment nice gentle draw, I play at Stanmore north London which is a tight track and I sometimes driver can leave me to run out of fairway hence the need for a good solid 3 wood for position. Time to start spending the pennies on lessons instead of flash gear lol

If you're playing for your Tiger's team I suggest that you keep it in the bag for another week as we're playing at your place next Sunday and the winners will win our league ...
