Hole in One Etiquette

We are the same, bottle of scotch on the bar. Haven't had one at my home club yet though.

The one I have had was in a pro am where there were 120 other 4ball teams. We were a group of twelve from our club so i told them all to stay quiet and I would by the drinks when we hit town later that night.

I ran this past my wife this evening in readiness for the big day, she was horrified and flat out would not believe that I could get insurance for it. She asked me how much it would have cost if it had happened today and I worked it out as about £65. She said just three words to me, “don’t you dare”. I left it at that. But don’t worry I will be :D.

Just a word of caution chaps.

If you do have insurance against it happening, check the wording as it may only cover for a hole in one in an official competition (medal or whatever) and may have to have verification by the club secretary and there may be a limit on the cost.

A couple of years ago on, Captain's day, our Captain got an ace. It was a shotgun start on both courses so the bar was heaving with about 160 golfers. I never knew that the club had so much champagne on ice

His insurance only covered for £300 so he was well out of pocket.

Bottle of whisky left on the bar is norm at our place.

when I was fortunate enough to strike one I offered my playing partners a drink of their choice and left a bottle for everyone else.

Our seniors have a hole-in-one pot, costs a quid to join and it's got a good couple of hundred in, so not many being scored. (I think it only covers in competition)

I've known of one guy who legged it down to Tesco for the whiskey
