Hole in One and Amateur Status

You could move to the US, or any other area that is under the USGA rather than the R&As jurisdiction.

The USGA make an exception to the prize limit for hole in one prizes in their version of the rules.

3-2. Prize Money

a. General

An amateur golfer must not accept a prize (other than a symbolic prize) or prize voucher of retail value in excess of $750 or the equivalent, or such a lesser figure as may be decided by the USGA. This limit applies to the total prizes or prize vouchers received by an amateur golfer in any one competition or series of competitions.

Exception: A prize, including a cash prize, for a hole-in-one made while playing golf may exceed the above prize limit.

I'd have taken the car too!

Out of interest who polices amateur status? If I won a car for an ace at a club in Devon, for example and it was in all the local papers and so on and the Devon Golf Union were aware, but then I moved to Scotland and joined a club up there without telling them about it. What would happen?
