Hitting The Green

Playing off 8 it does make it tough if you miss the green, but my short game has come on so much over the last 12 months that I have every confidence in getting up and down. It's very rare that I will miss a green 10-20ft either side.

I record my stats with GolfShot on my iPhone and I am totally honest, if I miss a fairway by a foot, I'll put it down as a missed fairway, the same with hitting the green and ending up on the 1st cut.

Yesterday I played 17 holes (our par 3 4th was closed), I play off 8 and I shot a 72 (Par minus the Par 3 is 67) and my stats were:

Fairways:

Hit: 35.7% Left: 9.2% Right: 55.1% and a couple were Long. It makes my driving look terrible, but the majority that go left or right, aren't banana fades or a low raking hook, they are just finding the Semi Rough.

Greens In Regulation:

Hit: 44.4% Missed: 55.6%

Putting Averages:

Per Hole: 1.67 Per GIR: 1.63

Front 9 consisted of 1 Eagle, 1 Birdie, 2 Bogeys and 4 Pars for a -1 Gross.
Back 9 consisted of 1 Birdie, 4 Pars, 1 Bogey and 3 Double Bogeys for a +6 Gross.

The back 9 can be forgotten, I missed 3 3 footers which was down to a lack of concentration and rushing to get try and get in before it got too dark.

I genuinely dont get the 7/10 from 100-120 range. Having played with you you are so much better than me from this range yet im not happy with 9/10 from this range. We are talking full SW here, are you really only hitting 7/10?

The <100 should be better than 8/10 however I know mine is far worse currently so cant really criticise, that said, as good as you are surely you should be aiming at better than 8/10 here

Perhaps I'm just easily pleased :D

100-120 will either be GW or PW for me. Full SW goes 95 when I'm on the other end of it.
Of course I'm not happy when I miss a green with a wedge, but I'm always going after the pin. If the pin's on the right edge I might only have to push it 10' and I'll miss the green, but I still have a go at it.

If I were aiming at the middle of the green I'd hope to hit more GIR, but firing at pins means you have to be prepared to get a few bad results otherwise you could spend the whole round beating yourself up.

I played full_throttle's course with him last week, and being fairly short I had some sort of wedge for my approach on 13 holes. I missed the green 5 times from those but think that I played pretty well.
1 long (misjudged wind)
2 short (1 wind, 1 me)
2 right (both me)

My handicap is 17. With the long clubs I don't usually get too upset if I miss a green but with the shorter Irons I do.

Doesn't seem particularly 'smart' course management to me!

I know. Makes me wonder how I ever play off 8 when my driving's all over the shop, my GIR aspirations are the same as a 16hc, course management isn't smart and my short game's nothing to write home about.

Perhaps my course is really easy! :D

And despite all the practice your winners speech is dodgy as well Gary.

I thought we'd forgotten about that. :o
I wasn't prepared.
I get nervous/embarrassed.
I'm not good with words.
A pig flying past the window distracted me.

My therapist says I should be over it by the time my grandchildren get married, but not to win anything again in the meantime.
