hitting short wedge shots from really tight links turf...

I have to be honest chipping seems a foreign art to me. Had a chipping lesson on Saturday and all was good and hit a high lob shot and holed out on Sunday at the 18th in front of a packed patio - happy days.

Went to work on what I learnt on Saturday today and can I get the feeling again. Can I heck. Wrist break, scooping, thins etc - everything except the back and through I had going at the weekend  :D

What's the correct method of maximising spin? I always play the shot outlined above but the ball tends to release too much for me. Anyone give me some pointers?

Thanks

What type of ball do you use and do you clean your grooves regularly?

I generally use NXT Tour balls and keep my grooves very clean. I have a Ping MB 54 and a Ping Tour 58. Maybe the ball is not soft enough? :D

I use Spin Milled Vokey's too, and to be honest, I only find backspin a problem when hitting full shots, ie realy ripping into the ball from say 80yds.

I'm still trying to perfect the quick stopping 10/20yarder, but find that moving the ball back in your stance a smidge, and nipping down firmly into the back of the ball helps it check after a bounce or 2.
Ive played with a Scratch player who also used the Vokey's and made the job look stupidly easy, .....its all about the quality of the strike, undoubtably.

Play the ball slightly back in the stance, weight on your forward foot and hands forward. I know this will deloft the club slightly but there will be enough loft left to do the job. With your hands in front of the ball at address, try and make a steep angle of attack into the ball.
Ensure the leading edge of the wedge goes into the ground taking a small divot.
DO NOT LET THE CLUB HEAD BOTTOM OUT AND PASS YOUR HANDS AT THE BALL AS THE BOUNCE WILL CAUSE THE THIN
With a bit of practice, you will become more confident with this shot and will no longer give you any worries.
Good luck :)

Well bob, i've been working on this over the last couple of nights and i think i'm getting there. It's a confidence thing with it though. I just need to get the confidence to take this shot onto the course. I am still thinning a few out of 20 or so shots with this technique as i sometimes still let the club bottom out. I'll keep going with it and hopefully will get there with it.

When it works, it works beautifully though!
