A good lesson from Phil Mick on how to hit off a concrete pathway. Good to hear some explanation of his thinking.

In the early days, I once had my ball on a gravel track. Out came the (Dunlop) sand wedge as I tried to swing hard. Last thing I remember was spraying a lot of stones around and my sand wedge had permanent dents on its face. I were Phil, I would drop it on the green and play on.. but then I dont replace my wedge for every round..:o

What would you do..

I think that's what the pros call a "tight lie". In our "friendly" games we normally have a rule that you get a free drop off any surface that might damage the club as it's not worth the risk of ruining a club. Obviously this wouldn't work in a comp so I'd probably borrow my mate's lob wedge and give it a go with that.

In any bounce game I wouldn't dream of hitting anything that may damage the club. Why bother - it ain't life and death. In a comp depending on whether the buffer is disappering in the rear view mirror or if I am doing well I will either use one of me wedges which have a few dings from stones in bunkers or I will take a penalty drop. Chances are I'd get a better result dropping and then bashing the next one close to the green than risking it off concrete anyway

I remember watching his post round intereview, I loved how he says "Playing off concrete adds 5 yards as you can't get under the ball"

Come on Phil! Do the world a favor and admit you caught it a little fat and got lucky with the result...... :smirk:

And that was smooth concrete....
I'd get a wedge on it if it was that smooth...

But some of the cart paths I've seen - I'd take a drop.

Depends whether anyone was looking or not. If they are looking I'll take the putter out and hit it to where I can play from, if no-one is looking I'll take the leather mashie ;)

Wish I could do that but I guess few members could pull this off without high risk of damage to club so if no relief then I'd putt it onto the grass and chip from there, unlikely to cause any damage to putter with that stroke

Looks like a perfect shot for a chipper club though :D
