The tree growing OOB which deflects your wild drive back on to the green for an easy birdie putt certainly interfered with the play of the hole. That is just one of the luckies that happen in golf (yes to me as well :eek:), but a tree is a natural object and I think the power line local rule is intended to take such lucky or conversely unlucky bounces out of consideration. Hit the wire wherever, and it's the same for everyone.

In any case, the rule does not say that you differentiate between a wire on your line of play and another part of the wire you hit well out of your line of play. It's just about a wire that is in play on that hole. We can all demonstrate that there are parts of the course well off our lines of play that are in play!
