I have always been very inconsistent with a 3 wood.
At best, inaccurate off the tee & lots of topped shots off the fairway.
I have always played it a couple of ball widths inside my left heal.

Today, I tried it from the middle of my stance.( or maybe just forward of middle)
Wow, what a difference, a lovely straight ball flight off a low tee, & much easier to hit off the fairway.

Does anyone else hit their 3 wood from this position?

Ball forward for me....sweeping it off and not taking a divot. Horses for courses though...if it works, go with it!

No I hit mine from the same position as I would hit my driver, left heel.
However I open my stance a fraction from square as to allow myself to come
through easier.
Off the deck or off the tee no problem.

The bottom of the swing arc varies from person to person so you need to find the one for you . Ball position depends where your arc is in relation to your stance. I take a very small divot from the middle of my stance.

I prefer the ball towards my left heel, but the design of the 3 wood is also important. I like smaller heads. Much easier to hit off the deck than larger ones IMO.

The only club I tee up is my driver and 4-5 iron and I seem to hit my 3 wood perfectly off the deck BUT I think my 3 wood comes of the face better lower down compared to some 3 woods like the bertha 3 wood which I could not hit at all unless I teed it up, it just seemed usless off the deck.

So the point is where is the point that your 3 wood is made to be hit from ? Top, Middle or bottom ? I think it makes a big difference PERSONALLY
