Hillside Blackball Gerrard

Never realised that Ormskirk was so hard to get into. It's a nice track and we've been there a couple of times with others lads from my club, always enjoyed it. But I wouldn't say it's the kind of club I'd want to jump through hoops to join.

Formby still above Hillside aswell.....

Preston is a far better course than Fleetwood and Formby Hall IMO. Makes you realise how lucky we are in the NW looking at that list really

Some goat track at number 7 though

That's obviously a mistake :whoo:

Really.....being black, Catholic, Jewish, an actor or a shopkeeper.
All of those were common as little as 50 years ago but I think we have moved on a bit now.

I wouldn't advocate any organisation, be it a golf club or anywhere else to reject membership on racial or religious grounds. I would think (hope) that was a given on here at least, but as a private members club, they surely have a right to decide who they allow to join. If another member had rocked up and had a dust up in Southport High Street, even if it didn't result in prosecution (as per Gerrard), then surely if they turned their application down for the same reason its a total non-story. Just because its a famous footballer it becomes something more

I've just had a look on the top 20 in Lancashire and this was a the results, Pleasington 9th, Ormskirk 10th, Manchester 12th Royal Fleetwood 16th and Preston 20th.

Surprised to say the least.

Fleetwood........16th......... Who compiled that list? Were they drunk? Fleetwood shouldn't be anywhere near that list...

We have, but they were all outright discrimination, who wants a scrapper who throws punches at someone when he doesn't get his own way in your club, I'm sure the same refusal would be made for any person applying at Hillside, just because he's a celebrity should not give him any special treatment.

Exactly. If it had been anyone applying they'd have been politely refused and that would have been it Just because it's a celeb it seems to make some sort of difference.

You make it sound like he goes round cracking people all of the time. I'm sure Hillside would gladly take his £120 green fee if he rocks up as a visitor though, his previous wouldn't even be considered.

Not really, but the point was, as you know, if Bob the builder was known to have got into a brawl and it was publicised and a member of the committee knew him and knew about it, I'm sure he wouldn't be accepted if he applied for membership, as such, Stevie shouldn't be either. I think it just shows they have a standard when things are known to them and they stand by it and don't let celebrity status cloud that view, fair play to them.

On that basis he should never be allowed to join any other private members club then.

I'm not really bothered either way, they have their own criteria and they're entitled to let in who they want or don't.

Like I said, if he rocks up a few times a year to play as visitor and pays £120+ I'm sure they wouldn't give a damn what previous he's got they'll just take his money.

I'm sure there's quite a few people on here who have had a brush with the law, I'm sure that's never stopped them from joining a club. I know "some" won't be welcome back to previous clubs though

So a 2/3 waiting list for a course that isn't justified by the supposed standing ? Is it more about the "social standing" ?

Why such a standing when it appears to not even be anywhere near a top ten course in its county ?
I joined because i wanted to,its no business of yours why i joined, so your criteria for joining a club is how high up in a list that at best is just an opinion based one,i based my choice on a different criteria.

Once the weather breaks, you should invited us all round for a re-evaluation round. Or even a judge it for yourself round in phils case.

I don't need convincing, the only time I played I had 3 birdies :) including back2back. In football terms it was a perfect hatrick. 1 each on a par 3, 4 an 5

Yes

It's a private club it should be up to them, I am not saying I would agree but it should be up to them.

Being a private club does not mean you can break the law in any way, including discrimination. It's a golf club, not diplomatic immunity.
