Hidden talents

I’m a world record holder twice over, most drummers in one place playing the same beat, around 800 of us the second time around.

I was part of the world record that sent the longest chain mail... I don’t know if we still have it, it was some time in the 90s.
In hindsight I think it was just a ploy by Royal Mail to sell stamps.

As for actual talents, I’m pretty good at table tennis. Nothing competitive but do enjoy it for exercise too.

My big toe and second toe are the same length.
Something my grandson was amazed to find out as his were the same.
I told him that evolution will probably result in humans being clove footed and hairless, and that we are both half way ahead of the game.

Took up playing guitar my teacher reckons I am a natural.
Should have done it years ago.
But things don’t stick in the brain when you get older.

Learned Classic Gutair and after a number of years taking lessons could read music and play to a fair standard.
I am 61 now and the caged system just won’t sit in my head .
I just can’t remember all the positions.
So I just play for my own pleasure now I will never be a Mark Knofler.

Tried drums and guitar I was crap as I just don't have the feel for music.

In fact when it comes to talents of the hidden variety I am in fact quite bland and have none. I used to be able to run 1.5miles in boots in sub 7mins 30secs, and do over 85 press ups in 60 secs but that's not really a talent so yup I'm of less than average talent..

I can put both my feet flat on the floor and make my big toes point straight up to the ceiling.

I was taught to juggle 3 balls by a Russian from the Moscow State Circus

I can play the piano very badly

I’d call those talents 👍

Used to be decent drummer when I was a kid.
Annoyingly My music tastes were awful back then so I didn’t play as good stuff as I would now if I still played.

I was also a good basketballer but at 6ft was too small

More of a by product of being in the forces and having to do it. One lad I went through basic with could do it sub 7 minutes and used to make me feel unfit.
If you can do it it’s a talent - I couldn’t do it, that’s for sure.

As an ex-drummer myself, I find it hard to believe you could get 8 drummers to play the same beat together, let alone 800 !

(As a teenager I fancied myself on the skins, but then I heard Bill Bruford and Pierre Moerlen and realised I was deluding myself)

Intermediate boys schools county sports champion 1961, played bass and sang in bands for over 50 years.
Auditioned for Opportunity knocks twice, made a few rubbish CDs and videos, back in the day I had to fight the women off  you wouldn't believe it to see me now .:cry::ROFLMAO:

Ha ha, we had a huge screen with a metronome counting away so it was pretty easy once everyone got into the groove.
Bruford is one of my favourite drummers btw, gutted he's had to pack in playing.

Played bass is an indie-pop band in the early 90's. Released a single that got played on Mike Reid's Round Table on Radio 1 - Chesney Hawkes (of "I am the one and only" fame) was one of the reviewers. IIRC, got an OK review.
Didn't really see eye to eye with the singer & drummer, got pushed out of the band. Not that they achieved much afterwards other than a couple more singles and an album.

Narrowly missed out on a gold medal at the 1984 Olympics.
OK, it was the WeetOlympics (organised by Weetabix for the Boy Scouts). If only one of our guys realised that it was a 100m 4 legged race instead of diving over at 50m thinking that we'd won (was way ahead of 2nd place at that point).

Beat a reigning world champion at his sport. John Lowe back in the late 70s. Fair enough, it was only one leg, he was off 501 and I was off 101, but a wins a win. Finished on double 14, can still remember it clearly!

I always got the impression that he didn't have to stop, but hit 65 and chose to retire, like normal people do.
Maybe he spends his time on the golf course these days?

Unfortunately Pierre Moerlen stopped for the same reason as lots of other drummers (like Bonham, Moon, and all of Spinal Tap's)
