If he was from the North of Ireland, he might have been saying 'quare', which has a lot of possible meanings depending on context, but probably best to interpret it as a non specific acknowledgement of her awesomeness, as the kids might say.

Mine is just called sweetheart ... But I think she is a bit deaf, because she misheard the marriage vows, instead of " to have and to hold " she thinks its " to have and be told"
