Hi guys/girls

Have started playing abit of golf the past year/6 months and am really starting to enjoy it, have mainly been playing pitch putts and par 3's with family, friends and work colleagues however id now like to step it up and play more regular and hit some full courses

Im currently using Adams GT irons (second hand bought from ebay) and seem to be hitting fairly consistent with these now. SW PW 9 8 7

I have attempted the odd par 4/5 and find myself loosing the consistency when i start to try and rip the skin off the ball for distance when using the lower irons :(

Putting, this is my weakest part of my game i feel, mostly due to the fact i seem to over hit quite often! Iv tried various putters but have recently been using my brother two thumb Purestrike putter which seems to help me alot more! i prefer the weightier feel to it.

I now need to buy my own putter though as i cant keep stealing it from his bag lol, and whilst on holiday last week in spain i tried the taylormade rossa corza ghost which i LOVED the feel of, look of!

Due to playing these small par 3s i havent had alot of chance to ''wack'' the ball although i do hit the driving range sometimes.

Short game wise i feel ok, i just need to delve into the tee off shots now, i dont even own a driver! Recommendations for a newbie!?

I really would like to get this part of my game going well, and will no doubt be booking up for some lessons to aid me

Seems like a great forum (iv checked many other before joining here) and hope to gain lots of help/knowledge from you guys :)

Dan

Welcome - Can you do me a favour start a new topic and ask
. The best balls to use
. Whats the best driver
. Whats the best Irons

and casually mention that you always take upto 5 hours for a round. :p

<evil laughs>

Enjoy the banter.

Hi and welcome.

You'll get used to the banter (see above lol).

Don't try to "rip the skin off the ball" with your longer clubs, the extra distance you need will come from the length of the shaft and the loft of the club, swing easier/smoother with longer clubs.

Definitely get a few lessons to get the basics right, then just get out there and have some fun!

Welcome Dan

I am a bit of a newbie myself!

Like somebody said. Forget about the ripping the skin of it. Doesn't work like that. It's taken me a long time to figure it though!

Enjoy!!

Hi Dan - where do you play? Plenty on here who are always ready for a friendly knock.

I would recommend videoing your swing and posting it in the 'Ask the Experts' section - some very knowledgeable people around.....and some less so :D

Jump in and enjoy...oh and welcome to golf! :D

cheers for the replies guys

its a mental thing i guess! the ripping of the ball.

Need some more sessions down the driving range with the longer clubs

i have hit with a friends driver a few times but the length of the club just feels sooo awkward!

Once that's cleared up custom fitting and what electric trolley to use are informative threads to raise...

Hi There,

Welcome along from another newish forumer.
Im in a similar boat to you, playing experience wise !!

My wife brought me a cheap driver for xmas this year (Fila Ti driver from TK max) and my first thought was the same as yours, however ive just been using it at half swing and getting quite good results, straight and 200yds ish... Im off to range tonight to build up my swing confidence with it though :-)
And as others have said.... Dont TRY to hit it.
Cheers
Jamie
