I play with some pretty indestructible Pings but my friend plays new forged irons, he doesn't want to get gouges or heavy scuffs into...

We are about to start turning in cards for him, so here is the scenario I need help with....

We play a lot of desert courses. The desert is not a hazard and is an integral part of the course...if his ball ends in a place where swinging the club may cause damage to the club or himself from striking the ground when hitting the shot is there any kind of relief he may take without penalty?

Lately, may he use a desert club for hitting the ball out in accompaniment with his 14 clubs? I expect no is the answer to that.

Thanks,

Craig.

As above for the free relief. Penalty relief (1 stroke) under Rule 19 Unplayable Ball is available anywhere on the course except a penalty area.

If he includes his "desert club" as one of his 14 not as an extra, that would be all right provided it is a conforming club. I don't know what a desert club is and so can't say if it is conforming or not.

I would imagine a desert club is just an old one he doesn’t mind getting damaged.
You can only have 14 inc.

There was a particular club in Devon where the SW I usually carried got dropped out of the bag and replaced with the scruffiest one in my collection. They did not have sand in the bunkers, it was crushed marble.
