HI all,

Having a nightmare at the moment.. nothing is going me way with golf!

Early last month (start to season) i got off 2 a flyer! Went down 0.8 in 2 rounds of comps finished and 12th outa 200 in a major comp! Finished 2nd in our socitey first event!
Me and my partner won our greensomes and foursomes (due to my 74!!! best round ever in foursomes) we beat a 6 & 8 handicappers 5&3!

Thought this was guna be my golfing year and maybe drop from 12.8 to my ever sought after single figure handicap!

ALL GONE WRONG! Big time! My ability to hit a nice draw is now a absoulte duck hook (Uncontrollable which seems to be a regular shot even if i dont play a draw) and have gone up 0.3 in the last 3 comps and actually got me first N>R in the club championship!

Such a great start and im gutted! My question is any body else experiance this and i dont think my swing is any different (obviously it is) and im struggling? Any advice?

Matt

Have you got an ipod? If so go onto itunes and download Dr Bob Rotella, if not buy the book Golf is Not A Game of Perfect.

I was scepticle of how much it would help me and have been blown away with the results.

Any advice?
Golf is a game of ups and downs, certainly until you groove your swing. Sounds like something has changed slightly if you are hooking it.

Without seeing your current swing it would be a series of guesses to figure out what is wrong but you should ensure the basics are constant and correct - posture, spine angle, grip, alignment, ball position...then it might be down to something like releasing too soon, too far out-to-in or weight shift.

Anyway it sounds like you've had a great year already... June could be a great month too you know! :)

regards...

If your draw has turned into a hook your swing has changed. I would suggest you've possibly started trying to hit it too hard, leading with the arms instead of the torso -getting too quick from the top thereby throwing the club out.

Get that backswing nice and slow and start the downswing slowly - this may help get the club back on the correct path.

I would have tried swinging with a heavy club or broom to try and slow everything up.

Hey Matty,
Just go and see a pro, he will sort you out immediatley, dont bother with books or videos because their is a chance you may just worsen the problem..
I started getting such an annoying problem whereas all of my shots had a slight fade sort of flight, and where i play its really windy and it was totally wrecking my game, so i booked a lesson with the club pro, he told me to hit some balls while he watched,The very first ball i hit it did it, and he said is that the problem shot, i told him yes and he just said your swing in to much around ur body and told me to swing with more height and width... hey presto problem solved as easy as that.. it is taking me a while to get back on track but i could see the improvements straight away. Hope you get it sorted pal, try not to let it do your head in

Get a lesson. If you were hitting it well recently chances are a small flaw has crept in, maybe as a result of trying to hit it further/shape it more etc.

I'm sure he'll see the flaw in minutes and give you a couple of drills to get you back to hitting it well again. You can't play well all of the time and the secret is not to tinker with the swing too much just because a few rounds get away. Trust in what you have and it'll soon come back
