Not great handicap but I enjoy my game was down to about 24ish before the lay up.

Didn't know many of the people at HH by name as I tended to play on my own (or with one or two friends) in the early evening and HH then was marvelous as barely saw anyone else - like having your own course. And although only a 9 hole HH was a good course.

Lay up came because I moved and went from having course opposite my house to being a bit of a drive, job changed kids arrived etc... etc.. etc...

Ended up selling clubs (I loved them too Wilson DeepReds and an Odyssey putter). Thought I would never play again.

Didn't have much money to spend on kit this time and had to start from scratch so decided to get a decentish budget set - this coupled with the fact I was always rubbish at hitting 4 and 5 irons I went for the Black Hawk Combos with a black hawk 3 wood.

Strange towards the end of my previous playing period I had lost the ability to hit the ball just kept topping it. As interest was waning I never went to see the pro to get it sorted.

Just before xmas we had a team build at Whittlebury park and after 10 mins on the range with the pro she had me hitting it long and straight.

That 2 hours made the bug bite so here I am again.

Good to have you on board. Hopefully this weather will pass soon and we can all get out and hitting balls again. Stick with it and join in the banter. You are more than welcome at any of the days being organised (Royal Ascot etc) or I'm sure there are other forum members that'll give you a game locally.

cheers all.

Smiffy beggars can't be choosers sometimes. The only good thing is my mates tell me the courses round here are desperate for green fees of an evening so looks like some of the unreachable s are now playable for us mere mortals.

Have been lucky enough to play Nizels and East Sussex National (Both courses) several times and I like them. But there are some shockers round here too.... Boarshead (a field with flags) and Seddlescombe and the one in Hastings with the heart attack hill spring to mind

Welcome Pedro.

You mentioned Nizells. I haven't played it for many years but I remember that in the winter it was virtually unplayable due to waterlogging on clay soil and in a hot summer the clay would dry out with large cracks. Is it still the same ??
Some great holes though when in good nick.

Sorry Pedro...I didn't mean to sound so "down" on Wellshurst, it's just a course that I don't enjoy playing that's all mate. I know what you mean about Boars Head...I've never played there but a lot of my friends have and tell me what a tip it is. And Beauport Park is the course you are thinking of in Hastings..you're right, that is a killer of a course, especially the back 9.
There are some nice, "cheaper" courses around the area...Willingdon near Eastbourne, Eastbourne Downs, neither of those courses charge the earth (you can get on Willingdon for £20.00 on a Sunday for instance).
Lewes is a superb track as well, always in very good condition and holds up to the winter well. The greens are as good there in January as most other courses in July.

Well last night I finally did it.... got back out on the course that is.

Played a Dewlands Manor which was in really good condition and managed to get a dozen holes in.

After the obligatory top on the first tee got to the point where I was hitting it well I know those Black Hawk irons are cheap but they hit the ball well and really nip it up off the deck with nice flight. Better than the Wilsons I had that cost twice the price. Found the hybrids useful as well.

3 wood a little short on some holes so decided to get a nice MD golf driver too.

Wasn't scoring but had some lovely holes - but as expected the short game is the worse bit

but my my the bug is biting.
