Hello, come on in, make yourself at home!

Sense of humour, now thats hitting below the belt :D
If you want to see how folks get ripped off, go over onto a few car forums, Scoobynet is one and there are guys getting conned with non genuine photos, crap delivery times and items turning up broken.
Trust me, the way we do it here is the BARE MINIMUM and could be a lot tougher, in fact some forums actually charge to have a sellers account to try to combat rogues.

Obviously no one knows it is a pre requisite NOT to have a sense of humour or at least have it by passed before being accepted into the realms of anxiety :p

To the origional OP .. My two pence worth, i apreciate you have been on a while , but your post count is very low, the way i see it, be it right or wrong is the forumn is moderated by volunteer forum members who will do what they think is right, it is done in the best intrest of the forum , ok on any given day anyone of us might not agree , but hey tough , im sure there are loads & loads of posts moved or deleted that the rest of us will never know about. its not personal , most of the mods will not be familiar with some one who has only a small ammount of posts & i agree that maybe there should be "clearer" guidelines on this but for me the descriptions "stranger" or "newbie" is self explanitory tho.. I think if there is any doubt on the mods side then it is better for the forum if they act , as other people said if someone gets "stung" on the for sale section , people would be up in arms aswel. so as i see it, mods can be dammed if they do & dammed if they dont , if some one has a problem just pm the mod or post & ask the mod to pm you, have a chat & sort it out , the mods are fellow golfers & fellow forumers , talk to them & sort it , just my opinion tho ,

heres a thought............

Let low posters/new members advertise in the FS section but they can only send first and be paid COD, that way the onus is still on the seller to sell to 'trusted' members in case they get ripped off!

There is DEFINITLY a need to have some minimum standards and rules in the FS section

Yes, DM's were exchanged but no common ground found but maybe he wants to buy the Scotty and was delaying me till he's paid ;)

I personally feel that if anybody has been on this site for quite some time they should be allowed to sell, irrespective of their post count.
If somebody was coming on to stitch people, surely they wouldn't stick around for 2 years before attempting to do so?
Is there any limit to how long somebody has to be on here before they can buy?

The way I see it is this, there are loads and loads of users that have registered up to three years ago and never posted, would you buy something from them even though they have been a member for years? As for buying stuff as you are sending the money first so I would reckon all the "risk" would then be on they new member. How would feel if one of the people that had been a member for a couple of years but had no posts offered something that you wanted so organised to buy it sent the money and you never heard from them again?

I'm not advocating buying from somebody with no posts at all Chris.
But a guy was selling some clubs a while back, had been on the site for the best part of 2 years. Had only made a few posts (about 25 I guess) but looking at his post history all of them were valuable ones, giving advice and asking specific things, rather than just posts for posts sake.
I think a little more common sense is needed before just deleting for sales posts immediately, just because somebodys post count isn't up to what we would class as "the norm".

Guys, I know its frustrating the way things work 'around here'

But... its hard for us to 'draw the line' without upsetting someone. NO MATTER WHAT IS DECIDED, someone will always disagree, argue it could be done better.

It is fairly relaxed and selling/buying is a privilge, not a right on here.

I certainly don't have a solid suggestion for verifying members and not sure without going overboard we could allow new members to sell without putting an ebay type system in place.

Of course, we could relax the rules and let anyone sell, but that will invite everyone in, clog up server space and ruin what has been built up over the last few years, a great forum. For those of you who have been around long enough, you will know what it has been like at the height of spamming.

Don't forget, its free to use this forum and the space does have to be paid for by the guys at GM/IPC... so really, its in the users best interests that we keep as much spam off here as possible to free up space and keep costs down. I;m sure you can guess what the alternative would be.

I guess its a jusgement call by mods if someone is a 'trusted' member. They are only trying to protect the buyers. I'm sure if someone was taken for a mug, the forum/mods/staff would be the first to be called for not being more alert to spammers.

Please be patient, nothing is personal here, we're just trying to keep the best golf forum on the net... the best golf forum on the net! :D

But does that mean Johnny no posts can be trusted to stump up the cash when the item they've purchased arrives? At the end of the day I think it's all a bit mental.

I buy most things with paypal these days so if the individual is unscrupulous I can get my money back.

You do indirectly pay a small fee for that privilege Tiger.
There is a balance that needs to be kept of the forums, there is no exact formula on any that I have ever visited but it needs maintained.
New members are to be welcomed, especially if they have something to give to the forum. Usually within the first month or two's worth of postings you can get a gauge on someone.
Lurkers, while members may not post, this does not make them rip off artists by any chalk, but they are treated exactly the same as the rest of us when it comes to cash.
Well known and long standing members are the least likely of the three main types of characters on the forum who are likely to give problems on a sale.

I do know that a couple have been a little slow in sending the goods once paid for but everything does get there. Maybe that is something that needs to be reinforced. On other forums there are sales feedback buttons where you will have feedback left on each sale. Speed of delivery can turn an otherwise good deal into a long slog.

As Gerry Springer said, Be good to others.

its for the sellers not the buyers, if a low post seller sells to a low post buyer then Caveat Emptor ;)
