Heathrow 3rd Runway

I live in the borough Heathrow mainly falls in...
And, as far as I am concerned they can shove it [the third runway] where the sun don't shine...
Heathrow was good, for the area, up to say twenty years ago... Now it is anything but...

Loads of freight arrives, at Heathrow, that could be landed elsewhere... Pointless!
Manston, in Kent, would be good for this...
Freeing up plenty of 'slots' for 'people traffic' to negate any real need for a third runway for quite sometime...

Investors and fund managers have been purchasing large tracts of land on the back of the expectation of the third runway...
Now their mates, in government, are delivering their profit day...
The vast majority of which will disappear, offshore, with not a penny in tax being paid...

Yep, I am definitely against it...

Er not wanting to put the cat amongst the pigeons. But quite frankly it stinks they are even building the 3rd runway there. Once more joe publics brass is being spent on the centre if the universe. Aka London. Why? Why not the midlands or Manchester.

Umm because London is the commercial centre for the UK and thats were the majority of the overseas working people etc come too - it prob should have been at Gatwick to help spread the load across the two airports but there was little point having it at Manchester when the demand for it isn’t there

Tbh it shouldn’t be Heathrow or Gatwick

It should be both!

Spread the traffic and give both sides of London options

However, from this point now they are estimating it will be 7 years before it is ready 7 years!!!!!!

Why the heck does building in this country cost so much and take so long?

12 months for the actual building work. The first 6 years will be spent getting Swampy and his Eco mates out of the trees they've chained themselves to and out of the tunnels they'll dig.

Theres demand for a motorway between sheffield and Manchester. Theres demand for a better roadway network north of The country of London. Theres no demand for HS 2. But we find money for both Heathrow and HS2 but once more not infrastructure oop north.

Please be assured the vast majority of us, in these parts, would sooner not be having the 'pain' of HS2... And, if there is a genuine need/demand for it then we'd be far happier for it to have been built top--down...

Not sure how much public money is going towards the building of the third runway... Cost of building T5 was operator funded...

Believe a lot of the money for the building of the thrid runway will be paid for by the operators

Just because there is a need for better road networks for “internal” use doesn’t mean there is the required demand for the extra runway at Manchester - the demand for passage from outside UK is to arrive as close to London as possible - not Manchester or midlands. London is the UK capital both financially and commercially especially from outside the UK - whilst other areas are thankfully growing commercially and the links between the cities in the UK are hopefully going to improve - the main hub will still be London.

Manchester already has 2 runways which are both operating under capacity.
