hcp adjustments-how hard can it be?????

bit of a rant here!
My club has had a new secretary for a few months now, he doesnt have anything to do with handicaps which the old secretary did. When he first started it was said that he didnt know how to cslculate hcps but a few months later it seems he still cant work it out!!! Its not bloody rocket science! I picked it up in about an hour of being told!!!!
The job is left to a member of the comittee who does it on a voluntary basis and is mostly too busy. Hence I shot 41pts at the weekend and am awaiting my first cut but still nothing 4 days later!
Surely sorting out members hcps should be a priority??
To be honest its just another niggling annoyance which is making me consider leaving the club, shame really because I like the course but the running of the place has gone downhill big time since the new secretary took over.
I rang the guy yesterday but he didnt seem in the slightest bit interested!
Out of interest how long does it take at your club to get results/hcp adjustments?
Am I being too impatient?

Most clubs have software to do it for them and post results on howdidido. If they're doing it manually I can see why it would take a bit longer.

It can take a couple of days to get ours through. Yesterday's comp still not posted on HDID, although they may have posted in the clubhouse.

our comps end on mon night and are posted on HDID on wed evening, then normally in the clubhouse on Thurs morning.

Do you not have a Handicap Secreatary as opposed to the Club Secretary? At our club the Handicap Secretary has a deputy for when he is away. Having said that they do use HowdidIdo, and it can take up to 5 days to publish the results for a comp - although that is the exception not the norm.

Ian, If your club uses the Club2000 software to publish to HDID, then it will not be published in the club either.

When we wrap up a competition at my club (I am on the comps cmte), we go through the process of verifying that all the cards are in the "box", competitors have entered their scores via the terminal in the lobby and the money collected by the pro-shop balances. Once this is done, we close the comp in the software which automatically publishes to HDID, calculates any handicap changes and applies them. Finally, we can then print the results for the club notice boards.

This is usually done the morning after the comp

Imurg if only you were nearer and had deep pockets. TXL plays a lovely track! TO be fair to our guys the results are usually up for monthly events pretty quickly but team events, foursomes/greensomes etc seemt to take forever to come out. I can understand the OP's frustration but it must be a pretty thankless job (not one I'd be keen to do) and if the club sec is doing handicaps on top of other stuff it could be difficult to fit it in. I'm pretty sure most secretary's are actually busy even if they don't always give that impression

Our guys are brilliant.

They're normally in their office until the last cards come in and enter them on the computer within a couple of hours of the finish, and the results with handicap adjustments are on masterscoreboard the same day.

Same here. Finish on a Sunday and they are usually up there on the net Sunday evening or Monday on occasions.
