As luck would have it, HID's friend got stopped. She was unaware her DL had expired.. So they hauled her to the police station and impounded the car. They let her go after paying the fine, but as no one else was qualified to drive the car, it stayed impounded. Cost = 150 a day.. So ended up having to scrape the car. Took her 4 months to recover from the ordeal. True story or urban legend... dont know.

Every 5 years for me plus a medical; HGV & PCV licences.

5 years for me too with HGV on my licence and I don't even drive an HGV now

i drove a year without renewing car license card (honestly never checked) stopped three times by ra polis and they never noticed it

Don't currently use either, but loathe to let them drop off; I've decided I'll probably do the next two renewals, after which they will then become annual renewals at which point I will let them drop if I'm not using them. Driver Qualification Card runs to 2019, if I'm not regularly driving then, I'll let that go, far more expensive to keep up.
