Played on Sunday in a medal with my normal playing partner,we were joined by
one of our regulars who generally falls in with anyone who will have him.
He is nearly 70 and last year was diagnosed with a serious illness.
The doc said he was lucky to be alive.
So on returning to the game,you would think he would be just happy to be out playing.
But no way,he could moan for England,and it generally starts straight away.
Everythings wrong,weather,greens,clubs,flag positions,bunkers,you name it he will moan
about it.
One thing that really made my blood boil was on the 12th hole.
He sliced his drive onto the 11 fairway,hacked his 2nd back onto the right fairway,his third was on the green
20ft away,he putted to 3 ft on got a 5.
His next statment was i cant f-in putt.
He was disgusted with a five,hes nearly 70 a 19 handicapper,surely a 5 on a par 4 stroke index 5 is sufficient.
What do some people expext,surely being alive and able to play the game should be the aim.
Why do some people have to moan about everything,dragging everyone else down too.

I got knocked down 6 years ago, and every game is painful. But I'll tell you one thing, its great still being here to play. Half full, not half empty.

One of our "former" regular players was like this.

Always something wrong. Always someones elses fault when something happens.

Typical example. He missed a 6 foot birdue putt because of, his words "a pitch mark that hadn't ben repaired properly". The green was like a carpet with not a belmish on it!! Could it be he pushed it a little right........

Reminds me of a favourite pet hate of mine. Why is that when someone narrowly avoids death, re-evaluates their life, realizes that they are wasting time on unimportant stuff, then makes the necessary changes, they are hailed a hero...But, someone who appreciates the fact that the pursuit of money is not the same as the pursuit of happiness, enjoys the finer aspects of the world around them, happily lives without lifes little luxuries etc.. They are labelled as lazy hippies without any drive or focus....We shouldn't wait for a kick up the arris before re-evaluating our priorities....

I had the "pleasure" of playing with one of these fine chaps yesterday. In his 70's and handicap rising and is now hacking it around big style, only stopping on every hole to moan.

The course is "untidy", "unkempt", "grass too long", "greens bumpy", "greens uneven", "greens two paced", "pitch marks", "too much sand in the bunkers", "too little sand in the bunkers", "too many bunkers". "Too windy", "Not enough wind" except coming from this chap. Committee, Pro and Greenkeeper are all left without a name. These are just a few as I had to switch off to preserve my sanity.

What's even funnier is that at the start of the game he tells us, I was 2 under after 6 last week and proceeds to NR the first 6. He hasn't broken 100 this year but no doubt that is everyones else fault.

Now I feel so much better. Thankyou Pokerjoke for this thread.

he's communicating the only way he knows how, I'm sure he's not passionate about any of these issues but probably isnt the best at striking up meaningful conversations, so reverting to a commonality without being confrontational or regarded as nosey is probably the way he's got by.

they've ever picked up a club,

I worked at a very exclusive private members club for a few years and at least 50% of the members were very happy in complaining about anything and everything.

Yep we have them at my club too. I kinda think its sad that he really doesn't realise what he's got and that maybe a step back and reflect on the positives rather than dwelling on the negative may get his life into focus. Other than that perhaps he's been a mardy old git all his life anyway and being cooped up ill and not playing has just stored it all up and he's catching up for lost time

There's one guy I've ended up playing with a fair few times this summer.

He never hits a bad shot or makes a mistake, it's ALWAYS the fault of the course/rain/wind/sun/greens/rough/sand that resulted in his ball not going where he wanted!

Makes me laugh to be honest, although I know it does wind up some other lads
