Have Taylormade produced a decent driver since 1985?

Completely wrong. People buy taylormade because they want to. I bought mine as I got one hell of a deal 2nd hand and I'm over the moon with it. If people have something against TM then so be it, it is their choice to pick something else.

Here is a question for you all. If you went for a driver fitting, tried several heads and even more shafts in them anda taylormade product come out on top of the results would you refuse to buy it? If the answer is yes then you need you head examining

I did go to a driver fitting, hit a Razr against my old g20 & an RBZ with more shafts that you can shake a ....shaft at. The Razr fit was the best by a county mile, the g20 pretty good, the RBZ rubbish even with a unlimited choice of aftermarket shafts, it's a massive white saucepan !! but doesn't go as far as a saucepan on a stick would ;)

And that's ok for you but what about those for which the rbz or r1 is the best, should they refuse it?

Another thread that rapidly descends into the usual worst thing/best thing ever made.

What suits one might not suit another. I still say that there are (virtually) no bad clubs out there, but there could be a bad club(s) for you

I haven't read all the thread, and am certainly no TM fanboy, but it is ridiculous to suggest that TM haven't produced a good driver since the 80s. Of course they have, thy have just sometimes added too many marginally different versions to a few.

For a start, the 510TP is considered by many to be one of the all time great drivers. I had one and it was a great driver with a Fuji 757 shaft.

The best TM drivers tend to be the TP versions, mainly because they get a decent shaft.

The R7TP was also a pretty good driver, and the R11 series are not everyone's cosmetic cup of tea, but they seem to be pretty solid drivers that offer a lot to players who like the colour scheme.

TM marketing rubs some club golfers (including me) up the wrong way, so I am unlikely to be a buyer, wondering if a new better version will be out 6 weeks later. I think it has also had a pernicious effect on other manufacturers, some of whom have publicly declared their reluctance in joining the faster product cycle set by TM. I also don't like the perpetual distance machine marketing, but each to their own.

Oh look, it's a 'slag off taylormade' thread. Pretty soon will be the 'cream all over mizuno' thread.
If nothing else, it's pretty predictable.

I have always got on better with callaway drivers personally, but damn sure every one of the main manufactures have produced many decent drivers since 1985.

Actually it's not. I am the first one to have a go at TM when I think there is cause, but even I said the R9 was a great driver. Everyone is entitled to their opinion

I did get fitted for one and I ordered it but it never arrived. Interestingly after reading all the shaft comments on here, I was fitted for a none stock shaft which seemed to cause all the problems. It is surprising how much dislike there is for TM, but I think it is purely down to their marketing. It is actually counter productive now. In conversation at a fitting last week, the pro more or less said that he thought all the heads had pretty much maxed out now and any improvements were going to come from the shafts, which is not good for people like TM. Hence why they are all coming out with different colours etc.

I agree that the stock TM shafts aren't but I've never been convinced by Cally stock shafts either. There are lots I want to try this year (G25, Anser, Cally Hot, RBZ II, Nike) and want to go somewhere that has them all in stock. Pachesham is the answer to my prayers although they don't do Cally (Mizuno, Ping, TM, Yonex & Wilson are their preferences) but Cally are doing a demo deay locally so I can see if they meet my needs. The idea is to get shafts that work for MY swing knowing that when I walk out of their the club is suited to me. No excuses. Get out and get the job done

just saw a TM announcement that they are the #1 driver at Augusta for the last 13 years in a row.........

Whenever I have upgraded my driver and fairway woods I have tried all the main brands to compare how each one performs, and also the feel I get with them. All the time I end up with TM - there is just something about their products that suit my eye and my game, same with Mizuno irons. That's not to say that their products are the best on the market and superior to the other brands - at the end of the day you play with whatever you feel comfortable with.

I've not played that long so can't comment on the older models from TM.

The best Driver i had was a TM r7425, that was a great driver, if it had not broken i would still have it now.

I agree the rest have been Shhh, not allowed to say that... not great;)
