This is were we lost the will to live and shouted FORE and lots of arm waving. When they let us go on the tenth not a word from them.

Yes, clearly it would appear manners have deserted the game.

Not a word from them? What a surprise when you've been gobbing off from the tee.

Did either you or your mate have the decency/manners to thank them for allowing you to force your way through?

I think it's irrelevant what age the culprits are, it all boils down to the players being ignorant of others using the course.

Regardless of age I would politely say as I caught them up that fishing for balls that you have not lost as part of your shot is just unacceptable behaviour and is bad etiquette on the course.

However disgruntled they may be with my approach, I play a straight bat and if that means at a later date they have occasion to pull me up for some errant deed then that is exactly what I would expect .

I don't believe in pussy footing around people's sensitivities if I believe they are unaware of what impact their actions are having on others.

Say it like it is and be damned!!

This.

99% of slow golfers don't realize they're slow or holding things up. Having said that, there's still a70% chance they're apathetic about it if they knew anyway. 50% are otherwise indifferent or plain rude with the perceived bad manners. If you're wearing jeans and using a mobile, there's a 100% chance you're in one of the groups above. That leaves about 1% who "care". Allowing for some of those responses you get from groups above on forums, there is probably a +/- 1% margin of error.

I think manners went out the window when the offending group held up the OP for 10 holes... the OP shouldn't have to ask.

I played a new course with my (slow golfing) father & brother in law Saturday. We didn't have a clue where we were going and what each hole was doing, nor were we in a rush... or playing well. We let 3 groups through without hesitation over the course of the day, because we saw that we were holding people up.

We didn't wait to see if they asked, we were aware of the groups. I HATE groups who try to play through when there is nowhere to go, who want to play at a certain pace / to a certain time and don't care about ANYONE else on the course, but at the same time, I'm more than happy to let people play through when I'm the problem!

Old or young, arrogance is arrogance.

I've been held up by seniors, ordinary members, juniors and women members and it isn't a problem with one specific category of membership. It comes down to a basic ignorance. There is a roll up that goes out in front of the one I play in on a Saaturday and they are painfully slow. They steadfastly refuse to let anyone through. Complaints have been made to them on the course, in the bar and in writing to the powers that be. It is their attitude that stinks and their refusal to accept the problem even though there can be a hole and a half gap. Sadly we're forced to accept that that is the pace of play for the day and adjust our speed accordingly

83.2% are made up on the spot...

60% of slow golfers are conscious of it and will let people through as soon as they can
but 60% of slow golfers also don't care and are oblivious to the fact they play slow...

hahahahaha, true stats.

I don't worry about slow golfers as I just bomb it 400 yards off the tee with my 8 iron and then walk past them.

Slow play again :D

We got stuck behind a doddering 3 ball last weekend!

2 seniors and one chap in his early 40's. It was hard work, but still, that's the game sometimes.

I've been stuck behind lady players, juniors, people my age, all sorts. No one age group is entirely responsible for the slow play pandemic.

People at our track will generally let you through. There are exceptions of course, but as a general rule, people are pretty good.

It's not hard to solve the problem, simply let faster moving players/groups through. Sadly, people who either haven't been educated in this or are too far up their own backsides to care. Either way, better education of etiquette would solve the vast majority of the problem.

The worrying thing that I have heard a few times is people who state that they only get to play one/twice a week, they pay the same fees as everyone else so they are going to enjoy themselves at their own pace. Of a larger concern was that one example of this came from someone in my own group when I suggested we up the pace or let the group behind through.

I am concerned that there is a selfish streak appearing that I was oblivious to before. Full members especially pay a lot of money to sometimes only be able to play once a week and I have seen a few people want to make the most of that irrespective of the people around them on the course.

I think clubs could do a lot more to help the slow play problem, clearly many players don't know the correct etiquette .

When players pick up there cards before commencing a round if the pro our whoever tells them the importance of letting players through where possible then gradually it might help.
