In a two ball Teed off yesterday behind senior 4ball held us up on every shot until 10th tee . very frustrating as I was 1 over and my pal 1 under. On 6th hole one of them decided to go fishing for balls with scoop and never bothered to play the hole out. Seventh hole he decided to play from the hazard then gets his scoop out again and starts fishing for balls again. This is were we lost the will to live and shouted FORE and lots of arm waving. When they let us go on the tenth not a word from them. Its very hard to have a go at the older members but they are the worst offenders for this sort of thing but how do we educate golfers to think of others as my PP was going to work later in the day.

Ice cream, popcorn, get your Ki Ora here. I think you are being a bit ageist in your comments. I have been on courses where plenty 20 something's have acted in ways that do not match general etiquette on the golf course including being made to wait hole after hole. If they were members then report them to the powers that be in the club, be it pro shop, secretary or committee

I have lost count of the number of times I have been held up by young players with television mannerisms which oblige them to take minutes each time they set up to the ball, followed by six practice swings. I'm in my sixties, as are the other members of my regular four ball. Unimpeded, we can go round in 3 hours 15 minutes without hurrying but are frequently held up by younger members. Our club also has a very sensible rule giving priority on weekdays to three & two balls.

If you'd stopped at this point you'd probably get some genuine sympathy..
To tar all Seniors with the same brush when anyone of anyage is capable of doing what happened isn't going to help....

I think it's irrelevant what age the culprits are, it all boils down to the players being ignorant of others using the course.

Regardless of age I would politely say as I caught them up that fishing for balls that you have not lost as part of your shot is just unacceptable behaviour and is bad etiquette on the course.

However disgruntled they may be with my approach, I play a straight bat and if that means at a later date they have occasion to pull me up for some errant deed then that is exactly what I would expect .

I don't believe in pussy footing around people's sensitivities if I believe they are unaware of what impact their actions are having on others.

Say it like it is and be damned!!

I'm sure I read a link posted on here recently which explained through results of an extensive study that the worst offenders were 15-20 handicappers, age was generally speaking an irrelevant factor...;)

As I keep saying on these types of posts.
There are nearly always two types of Senior golfers.

1]The ones who have played from childhood and they are generally top notch.

2] The ones who took up golf in middle age and never really had proper 'grounding' in rules, golfing manners and etiquitte.
They are generally the most selfish and ill mannered members group of most clubs.

The problem with the word "generally" is that it leaves a number of Seniors(in this case) that are below the standards expected.
this could be the group that the OP followed...

Generally I don't think you can use the word "generally" to describe golfers....

Already am at APGC....

Most of the Guys that play midweek at AP are Seniors - some are great and get on with it, some are rubbish.
Much the same the World over I suspect...

Ahh dull, a sensible reply... I thought you were 50 this year... 49 does not make you senior does it?

In a word, no. You get idiots in all walks of life. Sometimes they are older and sometimes younger. Did you ever have an opportunity to ask if you could play through? I would have probably gone up and asked whilst he was fishing for balls.
