.....................................a funny way of teaching us lessons.........

We have a par 3 at our course that plays 197 mtrs ( 215 yards) off our whites and 207 mtrs ( 226 yards ) off the blues and in the 3 years i have been playing i have went from trying to cane a 3 hybrid to a good swipe of a 5 wood to a nice controlled swing of my 3 wood which puts me bang in the middle of the green....
I can still go after the 3 wood if needed for a bit more distance but will only do that on the long par 4's off the tee

The shot requires the complete carry as anything short is wet and anything off line left or right is in forget about it territory......

The game has a weird knack of getting around you to retract your horns and machoness!

I always think it feels like you're cheating, as though you ought to be trying to leather the 5-wood to that green, and that by taking an easy swing of your 3 you're unfairly making the game easier than it should be.

There's a similar thing about putting from off the green. Sure, it looks flashier to send a Mickelson flop towards the hole, but 9 times out of 10 you'd get it closer by simply getting the flat stick out and bumping it across the grass.

none of my friends listen to me when i tell them that sometimes the best way of getting out of the trees they are in is using the putter. they think they need to use something like a 4iron. this bit of loft lifts the ball, they hit a branch and they stay in the trees.

today on 18, i used driver, hybrid, putter, sandwedge, putter. bogey

It all depends on the bunker Junior.....
The one bad thing about our course is that the bunkers are pretty shallow in depth.....It still kills my card though when i go in one

My teaching pro has been trying to drum a simple message in my head as I've been making the swing changes since Christmas. Substance over style. It doesn't have to look textbook as long as it repeats and is functional enough to get it round.
