I went to the range tonight for a wee bit and hopped out of the car shoes on clubs under arm well up for some practice......

To my astonishment i was told on looking for tokens that the range had run out of balls

2 young lads behind the counter with blank expressions of embarrassment staring back at me.....
Now i know that the club the range is managed by is in a spot of recession trouble but any time you go to the range its always busy...
Its seems madness that there is no one collecting the balls....At 10€ per 100 they are making enough money out of them to at least be collected......

So off i went and spent 2 hours with my wedges and my putter and 2 dozen of my oun balls to the practice chipping area...So at least all was not lost.....

We used to have a wee guy in a tractor go out and collect balls during the day and you could see the golfers eyes light up at the prospet of a moving target. He used to get pummeled. It was carnage as guys hit his tractor flush with drivers at 120 yards.

It only takes the young lad who collects/washes the balls to decide he isn't going to turn up to mess things up. If there is no back-up in place or new balls to put in the dispenser things can go wrong. :(

what a tight arsed barsteward willie walker is!

he offered me 40quid for a 2 month old 3 wood!!!

reason
'its a specialist club'

it wasnt a custom, had a stabdard stiff shaft in it!!!

10€ per 100! Jeez... I thought mine was pricey at £5 per 100 - but then I can be a cheapskate at times.

Our range seems to have a shortage of balls cos the tractor thing is always out there! Mind you, with the end fence being only 220ish yards away I'm thinking most of the balls end up in the forest land behind!

Never. Very poor show if you asked me and I wouldn't be returning. I use two ranges, one at Maidenhead which seem to pick up the balls at regular intervals but never seem to be anywhere near empty and one at the Downshire in Wokingham which seems to have a huge reserve of balls and are collected only at the beginning and end of the day.

The Maidenhead range uses Srixon range balls which are pretty good as range balls go but the Downshire use old fashioned rocks.

the range at the course is getting really shoddy. the mats needed changing at least a year ago and as for the balls . . most of them are almost devoid of dimples.

some of it may be down to competition from the AG range with its power tees but leaving it as it is they're encouraging you to stay away.

My local range is soem 10 miles in the wrong direction from my course - it is built on a slope (good for getting a fake draw)and the balls are all cup - shreaded or discoloured - the nets are all falling down and teh toilet has a rotton wooden floor.
Went last week a few times then I went to a new one beside my mums place (40 miles away) this had automatic power tees crisp fluffy mats, new balls, a level floor and clean toilets.

To be honest I sont care about teh state of teh facilities - no balls means no golf and thats just bad craic.
