People think the BBC is pro Assad? Really?

As many have said before, all sides think the BBC is biased which probably means it is about right. There are certainly aspects I don't like or agree with but I don't think it is sinister.

erm...you mean that Brexiteers don't like hearing reporting of potential issues and problems associated with Brexit that become ever clearer on a day-by-day basis - and the studies from 'experts' - what do they know? - that look at the impact. When there isn't as much reporting of the studies and expert analysis that shows all of the great benefits that will come about for Great Brexit once we have left.

So to be balanced. On Andrew Marr this morning - on the BBC - we have a balanced approach. We get a positive from Brexit and we have an issue. The issue? Status of Gibraltar. The positive? We might get a blue passport back.

Increasingly nowadays people seem to seek out media sources that confirm their own bias and rage against those that differ.

A bit sad really but I think the fact that both sides on almost any major issue tend to complain about the BBC suggests they're probably keeping a decent balance.

Also I'll note that quite a lot of the SNP voters who voted to leave the EU did so - not because of any great dislike of the EU - but because they saw Brexit as a way of hastening IndyRef2. And so it will most probably come to pass. And if those SNP Brexiteers find Sturgeon trying to get an Indy Scot into the EU, I suggest that they will not complain.

Exactly my viewpoint. If your feelings are particularly strong one way or the other, then you will object to any reporting that does not agree with your view.
No service is perfect but I do believe the BBC does its best to be balanced and objective in its approach.

I'm interested in how you think it would be more neutral. If it has to bring in advertising to pay its way then it would sell its supposed neutrality to the highest bidder. It would become dependant on big business to survive.

Under the current system they get their money come what may. If they had to rely on subscribers they would have to be more neutral.
No-one seems to have too much trouble with Sky News.

I don't think they're that different from any media outlet. They report the news, and then express an opinion of the news. Whether its the Telegraph, Mail, Mirror or the Times its about reading the news and deciphering the opinion.

Occasionally they're clumsy and shallow but I don't have a problem with them expressing an opinion, which I can either agree or disagree with.

The media outlets you have highlighted are all newspapers. You know what you are buying and printed news has traditionally been this way. TV news had traditionally been neutral in this country and the state broadcaster which we all have to pay for has a duty to be neutral, especially in the U.K.

Re The EU referendum I thought The BBC was, and still is, very biased towards the Remainers.......IMVHO.

There is just more news about issues and possible impacts of leaving - when there is nothing about the upsides of leaving - because we don't know how we are leaving - nobody knows - what are they supposed to report. Maybe they should have a specific section on news bulletins called 'Today from Dexeu' that reports what Davis and hois Brexiteers are up to. The problem is that May has said that she will not be giving a running commentary - so what is the BBC supposed to report?
