Has anyone played Wyboston Lakes Golf Club?

Hi all,

I am off to Wyboston Lakes Golf Club this weekend to watch my buddy get Ping fitted and then we are going to play a round. Has anyone played here and is it any good?

Amanda is a member and Viscount17 was/is.

It my local course and have played many times..but not since last year. Not the longest course and very flat but decent layout with lots of water in play. Par 3 3rd is 110 yards from yellow over water with not much runoff other side of green.
You will enjoy it.
Amanda should be along soon to give you the current conditions..lo.

Hi Alex. I am indeed a member and probably spend more time there than at home. We're still on winter mats which is a shame as the course is way shorter for men in particular but it does add a bit more risk/reward to a couple of the holes (the 12th becomes almost driveable but a fair carry over water and a tight target). It's looking in really good nick today with the sun on the lush fairways and they cut them, the tees (get us on them!) and the greens yesterday and it looks good for it. The greens are ok but not great tbh and the hole cutting is awful - not done enough (once a week) and also cut poorly so crowned on day 1. Water in play on most holes - the 1st is a dog-leg right with the water on the right so either a lay up to the corner or across the corner of the lake but the bank is protected by trees. Also water/ob on 2nd, pond in front of short par 3 3rd and left/back of it, no water on 4 but back on 5, 6 and 7. Back 9 is tougher/longer but no water til the 12th (unless you're really wayward and find the river on 11) then 12, 13 and 14 have water then it's plain sailing :thup:

Do you know which pro your friend is seeing?

No idea about the fitting yet, I am waiting for my mate to come back to me with times and the like. Would you be happy that this is a good place to get fitted?

I and David both play Ping and were fitted there. David would never have gone for Ping or graphite shafts but the numbers were compelling and he's hitting the ball beautifully. It is a very professional outfit and I would recommend it for sure. As it's a Saturday it may be Martyn who is doing the fitting.

We're playing at 9.07 but are a four already or I'd suggest we show you the ropes - so to speak. Let me know when you have more details.
 
I liked Wyboston Lakes when my daughter used to have lessons there, good practice areas, lovely terrace & the 1sttee looking down the fairway with the water on the right is impressive. Never did play the course though.

Ahh yes - Waterside is a lovely bar/restaurant with view across the 1st and back down the 18th. Not really a clubhouse as such but very nice facilities. Range is fine with 30 balls for a quid and only a few bald ones. Short game and putting practice areas also useful.
