Hi all,

I have a golf day at Hoebridge Golf Centre a week tomorrow and the website only really tells you basic information about the course.

We have 9 holes of Texas scramble in the morning on the Shey Copse and then 18 holes Individual Stableford in the afternoon.

Is it tree lined? is my number one question but really any and all information would be great.

Thanks alot

Alex

See my thread about the lightning that was all round the course on Tuesday this week.

It's an OK layout but the place is a money-grabbing rip off from the moment you drive in. You can't even get to the locker rooms without having to go through the shop.

I'll do a review of it sometime but right now I'm still really p****d off with their attitude from the recent Surrey Herald even that was played there.

Rest assured, not all Burhill places are like that. Well, mine certainly isn't.

Just to help you out
1-4 Wide open start of par 5,3,5,4
5 - looks tight off the tee, lot more room left than you think. One more club to green and play left of tree.
6 - Downhill par 3 - two less clubs.
7 - take 5-wood at marker post - then you get a good view of the green.
8-9 Wide open par 4 and 5.
10 - 3-wood to left side to open up green - land ball short and let it run on.
11 - aim just left of the marker post.
12 - short par 3.
13 - tight par 5 - play short of left bunker and then walk up to get a view of where to play your second.
14 - go left of bunker in fairway
15 - wide open par 4
16 - uphill par 3 - everything kicks right to left
17 - play left side with 3-wood - then go up the hill and it opens up from there
18 - finishes with a par 3 - crap.

Shey Copse is actually a lot tighter than the main course but is nothing special and shorter than Ian Woosnam.

I think Paul is still a bit miffed with his experience in the thunder & lightening.

Unless it's changed drastically in the last 6 months, you don't go through the shop to get to the changing room.

The Shey is a nice little course for a warm up, some fun little holes and usually in good nick.

The main course is a good course, not tree lined as such but there are plenty of them. Many of the greens are slightly raised meaning missing can give some nasty kicks into the rough.

1 is a gentle par 5. Going left is OK as long as you're not left of the 1st bunker as it's OB. The Tiger line is just left of the trees on the right as the hole doglegs slightly right.

2 is a par 3 with bukers both sides of the green and trees/OB down the left.

3 is another par 5. Left leaves you blinded from the green but it's a par 5 so no biggy.

4 is usually into the wind so plays pretty long, bogey is usually a good score.

5 is an arse because of the tree in front, especially if the pin is front right. The hole drops down from the tee and back up to the green . The shot this time of year is to the left corner of the fairway towards the 6th tee. You have to be long to take the tree out of play for the 2nd.

6 is down hill par 3. The line is over the bunker on the left, anything too far right will end up in the right trap

7 is my favourite hole. You play up to a platen fairway. Aim at the big tree on the right as it all kicks to the left. From there you get a good view of the green which is on a ledge. Left off the tee is dead, left of the green is dead.

8 is as you see it but don't go left.

9 is a par 5 that doglegs about 120yds from the hole. If you want to go for it in two your tee shot needs to be just off the left bunker.

10 is a birdie hole, a short par 4. A good drive just left of the copse of trees on the right can easily reach the green.

11 is a tricky hole. The fairway drops severely and runs to the right. A goo drive will be between the marker post and the trees on the left. This time of year this will hopefull end at the bottom of the hill on the right leaving a perfect shot up the green. If the pin is back right, watch out putting as it slopes severely to the back right edge.

12 is a par 3, don't go long

13 has OB all down the right, you can play short of the bunker on the left but if you aim down the left the slope will bring you back into the fairway. Reaching the raised green in two is possible but actually hitting it is tough.

14 has 3 bunkers in the middle of the fairway. Left of these is the safe shot but if the pin is at the back I always went right as it's a better angle.

15 this time of year isn't too bad but is 440 off the whites but straight forward as long as you don't go too far right.

16 is an uphill par 3. Left and right can be bad for different reasons

17 is a par 5. Left and too far right off the tee are bad shots. Aim down the right to kick off the bottom of the slope. Anything too short won't reach the plateau and will come back towards you.

18 is a par 3 which is only tricky if the pin is back right.

Of course, that's how you should play it :D All in all it's a fair course, it's possible to score well but if you're too wayward it will bit you in the arse - hard.

Hope you enjoy it.

I guess I;ve been there a bit more recently than you have. Yes you do.

Played it many times and always thought it was a very good public course in great condition year round. Always played very early in the morning so few problems with slow play etc.

Did once, however, play in the afternoon on a bank holiday which was a nightmare as we were follwing a members comp and it took 5+ hours behind some rank rotten golf. Paul may have a point that during peak times people are squeezed on, but that seems standard now for pay as you play joints.

He also has a point about going through the shop to get to the clubhouse, it has been remodeled over the last 6 months, but it is quite a nice shop.

I'm intrigued. You always used to go in through the automatic doors and walked through to the driving range. The shop was on the right, the bar on the left. Where is the shop now?

The shop is still in the same place, the bar is still in the same place, but they completely moved the front door so its now round the side where the putting green is, so you go through there into the shop. Shop looks good though.
