Nudged the ball with his finger and didn't replace it!
Having seen the clip I wonder how many people do this every weekend and don't blink an eyelid at it. I have done this myself to the same degree I'm sure and never realised.
Rules are rules I guess but with all the cameras around courses now people will be getting DQ'd more and more when things arise after cards have been signed.
What ever happened to Equity in the rules of golf? He didn't gain any advantage and there was no intent. 4mm over a 20ft putt.
Just watched it on sky .he didn't notice at time but when it was played back to him He says it moved 3 dimples forward but only moved 1 1/2 dimples back !!!! From what I seen I would say ba hairs not dimples. All came about because someone watching tv emailed a forum !!!
He can sometimes become oblivious to what is happening around him, remember his second shot into the first green at the Ryder Cup when the group in front were still putting out?
Personally, I'm absolutely gutted because I took a chance on him and put him in my Fantasy Team
Unfortunatly I dont think its harsh, u can see it move, he wud have felt himself nudge it so it was his mistake really. He obv didnt mean it but thats what happens. I think u shud really be able to get penalized after ur round imo
It IS harsh...but yeah I can see the reasoning for it both sides
did he notice it at the time?
retrospective calls on infringements and all that
v
but he moved it and therefore gained some possible advantage
same as others decisions
im of the opinion that the players really need to concentrate on what they're doing at that moment and take care, rather than focus on what they're going to do in the next few seconds after
DQ's the right decision going by letter of the rules
but i can see a decision being made soon by the powers that be on retrospective rule infringements as theyre becoming more and more noticeable
like - once a card is in & accepted by the scorer and signed off by a Group referee thats it. Then a 1-2 stroke penalty being levied depending on the infringement Rather than a DQ
(and maybe an extra shot penalty for not noticing it at the time) to make sure ppl do take care and not try a pull a fast one
nobody wants to see a DQ unless its for a deliberate attempt to pull a fast one for which they'll then get a BAN and deservedly so
some other guy i know suggesting that "if they get the card in without being noticed they got lucky" ...isnt really in the spirit of the game
It's a bit of a shame that golf seems to be going this way. Given the close scrutiny top professionals are under with all this high definition tv stuff I cannot believe anyone would try to get away with anything. As far as I'm concerned if the player or any offical didn't notice it at the time then that should be the end of it. Think of all the penalties that are given or not given in football or wickets in cricket, or world cup goals that clearly cross the line but are not allowed. Thoughts anyone?
