Hardest course you've ever played

Royal Liverpool ( hoylake )

I don't know if it was as hard as it seemed or I made it seem thart hard because of the way I played haha

Played Carnoustie of the back tees in a bit of a breeze tough as old boots that, twice i've played Machrihanish of the back tee's and it was brutal.
But the hardest was Ballyliffin Old Links in 30mph winds, brutal but loved every minute of it.

This is quite a hard one for me :(. Ill say the Braids only because it was very very windy when i played it and also you need to drive the ball straight... which i cant do :D

Braids for me aswell. Played it 4 times and been howling a gale every one, which doesnt help on a course where you have to be in the right place off the tee. Would like to play it again in less of a wind though.

Whitekirk is utter pap. Hate it round there and played it a few times as one of my mates thought it was the mutts nuts.

The glen can be brutal in the wrong wind aswell.

Royal Aberdeen back 9 used to grind me down, headwind all the way home. Played it a lot as a student and never scored well.
Carnoustie is tough, I made a decent fist of it overall the only time I played it but the closing holes are very difficult to par.
Royal Dornoch is pretty hard tbh.
The Hawkshill course at Newmachar is a great inland track but tough.

Carnoustie
I have played it once and it is a monster BUT I would quite happily play it the rest of my life.My own course Irvine, Bogside is not very long at 6500 yards but if you miss the fairways you can shoot anything.

Baltray (co. Louth) some of the holes have matchsticks for fairways when stood on the teeboxes. Some of the bunkers were like hitting out of skips they were that deep. Would love to go back though.

Siloth on a very windy day, lucky enough to have markers on the hills as we were playing just after a club comp( very helpful )

Machrihanish back 9 into the wind is tough.

I'll echo what Bogside said about his track. I played it in the British Police Championships two years ago and on the back 9 I had 2,3,4,5,6,7 and an 8!!!!!! Mainly because I didn't hit the short stuff and boy is that heather tough, in fact its evil at Bogside!

I find Letham Grange can be tough as a lot of the holes require both length and accurate positional play off the tee. Boat of Garten is tough, fast tricky greens and very narrow fairways make it difficult.

I see a few of you reckon Carnoustie is a toughie,(which it is) but if you ever visit it again, make time for a game along the road at Monifeith. The Medal course is an Open Qualifier and was my local course for years in the 70's, dont think you would be disappointed.

i played the montgomerie course at carton house in meynooth ireland and the rough there was brutally long and thick i think i lost about 10 balls!

played carnoustie off the back pegs a couple of times and its always windy there too

Played Carnoustie of the back tees in a bit of a breeze tough as old boots that, twice i've played Machrihanish of the back tee's and it was brutal.
But the hardest was Ballyliffin Old Links in 30mph winds, brutal but loved every minute of it.

Steve,

Scotscraig in a hurricane in March, 2010 was brutal. Hard enough just standing up on the 5th Tee and playing trying and keep the ball on the green on the 18th certainly made for an interesting finish !

I have nightmares when I recall events from that great day, most prominent is myself Attics and StuartD hiding behind our bags on the 9th due to the hail and wind unable to get the waterproofs on.

We did manage to finish the round in blazing sunshine whilst topping up the tan. :p

Another one for Montemayor. Driving up to get to it you just think "how the funk did someone fit a golf course up here".

Mention in dispatches for Perranporth, baked hard with a freezing cold 3 club breeze. Paul Broadhurst played 2 groups in front of us and walked in the clubhouse after a 78 and said "if I had to play that course every week I'd give up!"

Woburn Duke's Course.

For God's sake keep it straight.........

I did.
Sometimes

+1 for me.

I played it for the second time yesterday :D

Any teeshot off line and you're coming out sideways if you find it.

We played it off the back tee's again, god it's long. Ended up treating most par 4's like par 5's. Get it close in 2, then see if you can up and down it. Unfortunately my I left my pitching and chipping game at home :(
