Happy Gilmore style driving?

Just been to the range, got a bit frustrated with my driving so started mucking about with a happy gilmore type drive, if you seen the film you know what I mean. Out of 25 balls, at least 20 went 200 yards nice and straight. What I want to know, is whether the driving like that is legal??

Thats the guy who set up with the ball forward but the club in the middle of his stance. If thats the one there is no problem. If it works for you go for it.

What you could also try is set up with the club in the middle, then tilt your body, side ways so your weight is on your back foot. keeping your shoulders square and arms fixed so as you tilt your club moves towards the ball. When the club is behind the ball. That will be pretty much the correct set up for the driver. Then go from there. Hope that makes sense!

Don't think a rule exists that's states how you should swing a club? Could be wrong like.

Having an image of the "Happy Gilmore" drive in my head, that has me confused.

Have a look on youtube for science in sport or something like that and Paddy Harrington gives it a go.

As far as I'm aware there is no rules against using that as a swing but you might get a few funny looks on the course.

Nah I knew what you were talking about Rick, it was DaveM talking about club middle and fixed arms that confused me. The Happy Gilmore swing is just step, step schwiiiinnnngggg.... No club positional sense, definitely no fixing of the arms... unless you want to lose one like Chubby. No wait that was his hand.

Just edited it to give more info. Its just away to stay square at set up with the driver. So many people open their shoulders when they have the ball that far forward in their stance. Then they wonder why they slice it all over the place!

Happy Gilmore not who I thought he was. Thought he was the guy who set up with his club in the middle not doing a 118 118 (see TV ad). lol. sorry for any confusion. But still a good way to be square at set up.

Phew, confusion over Dave .
I don't see many trying the Happy Gilmore swing cos if you miss and fresh air it, it bloody hurts.

Does anyone know why I can hit it well like this, but cant get it 40 yards with a traditional swing??

What are you thinking about when standing over the ball. I bet it is more than you are during the happy gilmore swing. The HG swing thought is "hit the ball" the movement allows for little else. When stood over the ball all sorts of little brain monsters float into the mind usually hurt the shot more than they help.

Tried this last year on captains day after a few sherberts. Took 3 months for my wrist to full recover!
