Playing in the Handicap Open at Hankley Common tomorrow, one of the nicest courses in the South East.

http://www.hankley.co.uk/

Have entered along with three others from the forum (Leftie, Richart and PN-Wokingham) but due to the fact we are all teeing off at different times I doubt whether we will actually bump into each other.
Richart is off at 9.07
Paul is off at 10.10
Leftie is off at 11.22 and I am off at 13.10.
Really looking forward to it. Weather forecast looks good, the course should be in superb condition.
The heather is brutal if you stray offline and a stern test of golf off the whites. Greens are normally super quick
Full handicap though. ;) ;) ;) ;)

41 points again?

I doubt it very much Murph. Hankley is a much stiffer test than Cooden mate, although the last time I played there I was going great guns until I reached the 9th.
18 points after 8 holes and cooking on gas. Striking the ball really sweetly, and feeling confident until I found a patch of heather right on the dogleg that took a dislike to my 7 iron.

I remember the course really well despite only playing it twice. Some superb holes, but the closing stretch is as tough as they come.
I'd hate to need to finish par, par to win the Open

Take plenty of ammo guys, and watch out for the adders. :( I might be back in time to give Smiffy some first tee barracking. :D

You are all very lucky - a fantastic golf course.

I hope you do well. I won an event there in May. Knocked it around in level par somehow!

Good luck and I hope you have good weather. Personally, I think the 14th is the best hole on the course.

Not sure I can hit it far enough off the tee to carry the heather

I got over the heather Rog. Unfortunately, it was one of the only ones I did...
Couldn't drive, couldn't putt, couldn't hit an iron or fairway wood to save my life. That didn't leave a lot.
Absolute garbage.
Had I not been playing in a competition I could have quite easily walked off after 9 and driven home. 9 points on the front 9! Couldn't even get into double figures...
I stood on the 10th tee, not knowing what had just hit me. But I made a decision. I was going to get to 20 points by the end of the round if it killed me. I was determined.

So I promptly blobbed 10 and 11..
I don't know how I managed it, but I somehow mustered up 13 points on the closing 7 holes without hitting a decent shot to finish on a 22 point total.
My only consolation was that I didn't come last. There were a few players off lower handicaps that scored worse than me. But my 82 point "Friday bubble" has been well and truly burst. I hate this game sometimes
