Got into an interesting debate after a round yesterday. I have been playing for 18 months then was forced to have 6 months off to have a full knee replacement. Split conversation yesterday at the weekly swindle, having worked hard to get to a 14 handicap i was surprised at how many people suggested i speak to the people resposible for handicaps to get it adjusted. I feel that i should carry on and at least make an attempt through competions etc what would you do?

Play off what you was last given, i stopped playing for 5 years off a h/cap of 7, when i started back at a new club (much harder course than my last one) i requested to stay off my previous h/cap. I done this as there were golfers in the club who i knew and they knew i used to play off 7, this with the other issue of the embarrassment that if i was given a higher h/cap and won a comp was one situation i didnt want to possibly put myself in.... for 14 months i never got near my h/cap and as a result went up to 8 in time. I then practised hard and at the end of last season (after 19 months playing) i am back to 6.7.... As a result i enjoyed the challenge of getting back to where i was and even after my playing partners saying i should of had a new h/cap.. i felt fully justified in what i done... and never had the horrible name tagged on me of a bandit...

Do you feel that your knee is sorted, can you use it as you need to?

i will be in a buggy for a while but hoping if anything it should allow me to swing in a way that the previous problem restricted me

many thanks i feel the same way although i never played golf before when i started i was fortunate to reduce the handicap quickly but that "bandit" tag was used a lot and i would like to avoid it at all costs!
