Is it the norm to have your handicap cut following a good practice round ? The round would include short gimmies . It seems to be the norm that players regularly score 42 points or more.
Thanks
Chris

No, cant be done. Suggest a read of the CONGU handbook held by all clubs. Qualifiers and Supp Cards is the short answer. No matter how many points scored in a social knockabout handicap reductions or increases are not permitted.

I think the suggestion is that this might have happened to you and, as Old Skier says, that is expressly forbidden. Following the restart of golf at ours, one of our big club WhatsApp groups was full of tales of 42/43 points. We then had our first QR on Sunday and there was one score of two under SSS and one of one under.

N0 - but if you were playing with the Chair of the Handicap Committee ...................

Thanks but a photo of my card was sent to the handicap guy who put it through as a supplementary card and I have been cut as a result

As you did not pre-declare it as a supplementary round, it cannot be recorded as such. Tell him to remove it.

I would recommend this link to your handicap guy

Paying particular attention to

6.2 Ensure that the spirit and intent of the UHS is properly applied in the club. Failure by a club to comply with this requirement may lead to a Union withdrawing the club’s right to act as a Handicapping Authority or imposing such conditions as the Union considers appropriate. (See Note below)

How could there have been a card if the score included "gimmes"?

Did you have any gimmes?
Did you declare the round for a supplementary card?
Have you reported the action to your club committee?
No gimmies,I’ve stopped taking them as I sometimes miss short puts / did not report supplementary card, it was photographed and sent in by someone else / one of the 4 ball was a committee member and I have complained about the method of the cut

I am happy with my new handicap, I have been working hard to improve but I would have liked to have won one of the qualifiers. My complaint was that other players who score 40 point plus on a regular basis are ignored (including committee members) I had the hump with “cut because of lobbying and everyone having a laugh.”
Time now to keep my head down and aim for the next cut

Dpnt just complain, your county will have a complaints and appeals procedure and you should contact them immediately. Your club is not following the rules as laid down and could be subject to de-affiliation if they are serial offenders of this breech. Sounds like you need a new committee.

Appreciate your sentiment but they have acted above their authority, and you have been cut using unauthorised procedures. Your card was not valid for any handicap adjustment - plain and simple.
