Hand built

Sounds interesting but expensive... What was the damage? I'm a believer in custom made clubs ( had mine done and I def noticed the difference) for the half decent golfer who wants to get better.... at least you cant blame the tools when the wheels come off! :)

A friend of mine had all this done (19 handicap) and ended up with some of those Tom Whats his name clubs... Plus about 2k's worth of Miura irons which he cant hit and hes no difference off the tee or anywhere else.!! :( I guess if it adds confidence then its worth it to some and of course you spend your own money how you so wish. I cant help but note that you've achieved a single figure handicap in 5 years on second hand clubs and a shoe string budget.... fair play to you mate! When I think of the millions..... and I can't crack 10!!

How comes Sth Herefordshire TL??

Some good (not great) courses much closer to you?

I'm @ Ciren btw :)

How come South Hereford?
Well...
When I started playing I played a few courses but didn't really have anyone to play with. My wife's Granddad played there and took me under his wing. He used to encourage me when I was topping it up the fairway and wanting to pick my ball up! He's been stuck at 20 for a few years but always encourages me.
I've played Cirencester, Brickhampton, Cleeve, Cotswold Edge, Rodway, Ross, Forest Hills but on cost (£545.00) South Hereford won't be beaten and at 6600 off the whites is a true test. I think it's one of the longest around but could be wrong. You won't see anyone on our par 5 2nd, 10th or 16th in 2! A lot of work has gone in since P&S took over. It is open in places but when you find the rough it's gone. I've established myself now and it would be hard to leave. I do need to play closer to home with 2 daughters under 2. The second was born earlier today
I need to find a new bunch of golfing buddies who play with a smile on their faces and love a bit of banter. (I can't be dealing with excuses or club throwers). Golf is a game of acceptance as far as I'm concerned and over 18 holes you get what you deserve.
I like Cirencester and Cleeve and would love to play Cotswold Hills and Naunton (hint)
I also like the Lilley Brook but it's only got the one par 5.
It's likely I will move in the next year or 2 if I can break the bond I have with my present and so far only club. I don't believe there is any such thing as an easy course or a hard one it's just a course and we all like different things.

Thanks. I've just approached the game in a methodical manner and will continue to do so. I am hoping the new build putter will help. I'll update you on the final cost when all is finished. My session on Sunday was £45.00 and lasted just over an hour.
When I think of the little I've spent so far and as I've got to single figures it's time to get a little more serious about the game. So if spending a bit more on getting the loft and lie on my irons and wedges sorted helps who knows what might happen. I'll give it my best and see what happens. I'm determined to spend more time at the range this year.
I'm sure you'll get below 10 if it's meant to be. It's bloody hard to play to 10 I know that much. As for your friend I think he may have spent the money too soon. Not sure if spending money adds confidence but building a swing and being able to hit a wedge consistently from 100 yards might.
What I'm trying to say is I'm relatively confident and am now considering investing a bit more of my hard earn cash. Still not confident enough to move to Pro V's just yet unless they want to sponsor me. I'm sticking with the soft feels at £12.99 a dozen.

Congrats on the baby!

welcome for a round anytime up the Cotswold hills mate.
where in Brock are you? our mrs may know each other from baby groups......small world.

My Mrs goes to most of them. I'm just off the main road on one of the roads beginning with Green. Is the Course Open at the moment. Do you have Temps? Thanks for the offer and I'm right up for it.

Temps if frost with bucket holes (my only gripe with club) but in the summer it feels worth the protection. Course is currently drier than many courses are in summer. Amazingly I played Ciren on 1st Feb with my mate who is a member there due to forecasted frost and it had 18 temps (small holes) and Cotswold hills had all greens open....gutted! Made worse by my mate thrashing my 38 points!

I will drop you a Pm - I live on a farm on the other side of village.

38 points............... and you got beat. :whoo: 38 is a good day for me!
It's been a long time since we had all our greens open!!!

I know what you mean about your 10th, felt like we were just hitting forever getting up that hill. However we were on 16 in two though.

I think your place could be a very good facility especially as it has that cracking little par 3 loop too. I don't know whether it is the norm there, but we played an A team match there last season and the greens were the worst I had putted on anywhere. Pretty mush exclusively moss and about 1.5 on the stimp.

Some very nice holes though, especially 15? Dogleg left up the hill, drive through a gap in the trees - good, strong hole.

Where did that factor on your aimpoint chart??:D

You're all more than welcome up at Naunton! We have one hole that is on temp quite a bit over the winter, but other than that, we've been open quite a bit i think!

The condition of Naunton last year when we come for a match was 1st class. Really enjoyed our visit.

I really like the course bar the 2 holes doing right angles round the field.

The greens are always slow and yeah they aren't the best! They'll get better I'm sure of that. The 15th is as you describe it.
I made a couple of A team appearances last year cos we struggle for numbers, it really helped my golf. The 16th in 2 is certainly impressive. I've never seen it. I've had more pars on the 10th than the 16th.

Collected the putter earlier. Can't wait to get on the course to try it out. I'll be spending a bit of time on the putting green this week in readiness for the final of the winter foursomes next weekend. At £126.00 I don't feel it was extortionate.
I'll be going back in the next week or two for loft and lie checks / tweaks on the 7 iron down.
