I went shopping yesterday in Lincoln to make a few household purchases so popped into 'The Range' first.
Collected what I needed and made my way to the tills. 6 tills available, only one open and I'm 10th in the queue.
Sod that, I'll go elsewhere. Took my items back to the shelves, passing 2 staff members chatting about the tennis. Their loss.
Down the road to Asda.
What a mess.
Stuff all over the floor, clothes fallen off the hangers, shoes, etc etc posters and just outside rubbish everywhere and staff walking passed it as if it wasn't there.

Then I spot an old man (80s if not older) struggling to pick up a pair of shoes off a shelf and no-one there to help him.

And to cap it off, I get to the queue where again there are 6 tills but this time I'm only 3rd waiting, result:thup:
Nope.
No tills open.
No-one serving
Staff milling around, not interested.
So, after waiting a few mins I just dumped my stuff and walked out.
Grumpy old git?
Too right I was.
What ever happened to customer service, it appears to have been replaced by gossipers and shelf stackers.
Rant over

I hate supermarkets. They are run by geniuses though.

First- the creation of the £1-lock on trolleys. Making you, the customer return your trolley halfway across a car-park when they should have trolley attendants to do it for you. I'd even give them £1 tip for their troubles.

Next, the design and implementation of the self-service checkout. They KNOW it's not faster. They KNOW we all hate it. The KNOW that the morons of this world will try to take their huge trolley to a self-serve checkout holding everyone up.

THERE'S AN UNEXPECTED ITEM IN THE BAGGING AREA

DO YOU HAVE YOUR OWN BAGS?

PLEASE WAIT FOR AUTHORISATION

Never mind the need to be a computer hacker to manually find exotic fruits and veg within their inane menu system.

My local Tesco is small but large enough to do my 'big shop'. Friendly staff who go out their way to make sure that tills are manned adequately, always have a nice chat with you and generally make a boring task a little more bearable. Every Little Helps.

When herself is away and the weekly shop becomes one of my 'duties'... I always take my fully laden trolley to the 'self' check-outs... Stand there looking sad and pathetic for a few minutes... One of the young ladies always approach's me and see's me through the check out process without me having to lift a finger... Works every time... Do worry though when they seem to know my pin number without having to ask ;)...

You did choose to go to two of the worst places!!

I despise Asda, had to nip in last weekend, it was all I could do not to walk straight back out! The difference was reinforced when I went to Waitrose the next day and everything was calm, relaxed and everyone was "enjoying" the experience a bit more!

We've got scan and pack at our local Tesco, its excellent, as long as the kids aren't fighting over who does the scanning!
