I have been hitting the ball OK just lately, although my occasional bad shot is to contact to ground before the ball.
Whilst practicing the other, day I started to grip down the shaft on all clubs, it was noticeable how my accuracy improved & my swing felt smoother, I didn't appear to loose much distance either.
My driving was very accurate as well.

When I bought my clubs originally from AG, they were just standard length off the shelf clubs with uniflex shafts.
My question is.
Do you think that my standard clubs are too long for me? or possibly the the shafts are incorrect for my swing?

Do any of you grip way down on the club for every shot (bottom of the grip)
I am average build & height, so I would have thought these average off the shelf clubs would have been OK for me?
Weight 11.9 stone - height 5ft.9ins
Thanks for all replies.

funnily enough I just started gripping 1 inch down which gives a much better grip and minimises the flippyness you can get.

Me too. On the range I vaguely remembered that I used to hold the club further down the grip, gave it a go on all the clubs and bingo! A much sweeter, straighter hit - all I have got to do now is to remember to do it on every shot!

Also 5'9" and was fitted with standard black spot Ping G20s this year. I grip about an inch down on my irons as I feel in more control of the swing, but on my driver I grip at least another inch further down, helps me control the big dog. I think for your height standard length clubs will be adequate, perhaps the lie angle may need changing but unless you have a repetitive swing, this may be unnecessary.

@ the OP: I guess it come down to whatever works for you but gripping right down where the grip meets the metal shaft of the club doesn't intuitively seem right. Someone more knowledgeable than me will have a more informed opinion.

I used to be the opposite and grip way up the top of the grip, with the butt of the club enclosed by my left palm. Needless to say accuracy wasn't my strong point in those days but when it worked, the ball went a helluva way!

bit of tape at the butt of the club until you have it ingrained ! i used to do it with an old callaway driver!

I was told a way back that I was suppose to grip an inch or so down on all my clubs to be gripping properly. Always use to hold it right at the top and wondered why I had holes in the palm of my glove

After my experience today I would, 100%, recommend going to see a club fitter.

They will fit you statically and dynamically and advise you what is best for your swing.

I too have started to grip down fractionally for the same reason as Homer. I get fed up of replacing gloves with a hole where the fleshy pad on the base my hand (Under my little finger) used to be

That's it then.
I to have worn out loads of gloves on the heal of my hand under my little finger
I am obviously gripping the club too high up the grip.
Thanks for all the replys.

It definitely worked for me.Paul Foston GM top coach spotted me gripping too far up the club at Golf live and put me right. I consciously gripped down an inch or more on my next game and struck the ball so much better and was actually hitting it further because the strike was much purer. Also meant my gloves last a lot longer than they used to.

A worn glove is caused by rubbing, and not from where you hold the grip.
If you're wearing holes in your golve, keep a firmer grip with your left hand (right hander)
