Greensomes Conundrum

Lots of people - me included until I asked the question - seem to think in mixed Greensomes the male should play a provisional from the men’s tee if they think both balls may be lost of OB.
if you think about it logically as you are potentially playing 3 off the tee you can select either ball - so the advantage is usually in the man playing the provisional from the ladies tee ( as they are usually - but not always - forward of the men’s tee.

Just to confirm. After A & B have played the tee shots, either B must play the result of A's shot or A must play the result of B's shot.
They have to make a choice.

If it seems that A's ball may be lost or OOB and B's is OK, either B must play a provisional from where A played or A must play B's ball

If A makes an airshot and BA's is OK, either B must play A's ball from where it is or A must play B's ball

1) The full explanation re playing from the teeing area is in this Interpretation

6.2b(6)/1Any time a player’s ball is inside the teeing area, the player may move the ball to another spot within the teeing area, and may play it from a tee without penalty.

For example, a player makes his or her first stroke from the teeing area, barely making contact with the ball, and the ball either comes to rest on the ground within the teeing area or remains on the tee.

Since the ball is in the teeing area, the player may play the ball as it lies or, even though the ball is in play, may move the ball to any other spot within the teeing area and play from there without penalty. The player may also place the ball on a tee or adjust the height of the tee the ball is resting on.

2) In a greensomes the pair has the choice of which ball to play. As your ball was found within 3 minutes you may play either. There is no penalty applicable to playing one or the other.

Hi Rulefan, are you classing the teeing area as anywhere behind the tee blocks within 2 club lengths?

PS. The Teeing Area is the post 2019 name for what was the Teeing Ground.

Tee Box is not a defined name and a Tee is something you may place your ball on when playing from the Teeing Area.
