Greens hollow tined

I don't know but ours were done on thursday and although they were a bit wooly today they looked superb.

They were also a bit slower than usual.

Its a good time of year to get a micro core or pencil core done. It allows air into the roots and while there is still growth it promotes a longer and stronger root growth for the winter months.

Backfill it with sand and other nutrients and your greens should recover very quickly.

Ours were overseeded and sanded last week and were just about recovered today, they must be expecting plenty of growth still.

Ours were done 2 weeks ago with pretty small holes and it made some difference in 2 weeks especially since the sunshine and rain we have been getting.....
There in great nick now........

One of our courses was closed for four days last month so the greens could be hollow tined. The other course was shut for four days last week for the same reason. On the first course the greens are now supberb and the other, whilst being slow, will be back to normal by next week. This will allow the greens to be cut shorter for longer into the season.

Our's are getting done tomorrow and Tuesday. Bye Bye season.

Matchplay final on Wedensday morning. Can't wait! Will just have to hit every shot to the green into 2 feet. then pray!

Nice, was wondering in case it was Murrayshall as I am up there in a weeks time for a National Final so hoping it's in decent nick.
I'm a member there too, but haven't played there for a few weeks but the last time I did the course was in great condition. ;)

Being an ex greenkeeper (if that is really possible whilst being an active golfer), I would suggest that the greens are cored (micro, pencil, whatever suits) when you have enough growing season to allow for a decent regrowth. If this is done efficiently it will get back to normal within 10-14 days, depending on the intensity of the maintenance routines and the vagaries of the weather.
As an aside Clive, played the Wee course and the Lansdowne yesterday, first time there for years, weather was great, courses in good nick and the service really friendly, credit to the golfing fraternity. My only gripe (got to have one!), we weren't told of the holo coring and were charged full whack, bit cheeky I thought as the wee course greens were lovely to putt on, as were the Rosemount - had to have a wee shot as they looked great.
