What a great weekend of golf I’ve had. I rarely play two games over the weekend but I put myself forward for selection to play for club on Saturday about a month ago, and then again for a 3 man team event that our club have every year on the Sunday.
I’m very lucky (a bit like Homer) that I have virtually no grief from the good lady about my sporting weekends.

Any how on Saturday my playing partner has mixed up his days and hasn’t turned up and we have to drag one of the swindle players off the course to play for the club.
So off we set and we quickly go 3 down after 4 holes, with one of their guy’s level par. (They are two 14 h/c and we are an 18 and I’m a 23) I par 5 and 6 with a tricky 25 foot downhill double break putt to reduce the deficit to 1 down, and my partner pars 7 to win the hole and we are all square.
We keep exchanging holes until we finish the 16th all square with both teams winning 7 holes and only 2 holes have been halved. My partner sinks a 3 foot putt to win 17 and with the pressure on our opponents both pull their drives into the pond leaving my partner to gently play out the hole to set up a 2 up win.
It was an excellent match played in great spirit with two very nice guys who were great company.

So Sunday morning my problematical back has a twinge and I’m not expecting any fireworks. I’m in a 3 man team event stableford competition with all scores to count. I par 4 of the first 6 holes, and have 14 points with a blob, and rack up another 9 points in the next 3 holes to finish with an outward total of 23 points (42 shots par 36)
I squeeze out a 6 for 2 points (S.I.1) on our 10th and even manage another point with a 7 after I knock my drive OOB on the par 5, 14th.
I stand on the 16th (S.I.5) with 33 points, a drive leaves me just left of centre on the fairway but my 5 wood second pulls left into the edge of the woods. Fortunately I have a way through and a gap wedge gets me over the bunker but 35 foot from the hole. I’m thinking 2 putts gets me 3 points but my putt looks good it moves nicely left to right and drops, get in there, 4 for four.
Another chip (3rd shot) onto our very difficult 430 yard (S.I.3) 17th leaves me another 30 footer, which I miss by a balls width and gives me a 5 for 3 points. Two poor shots up 18 leave me a decision to go either under the tree or right over, I take the aerial route and my ball is at the back of the green. Two putts give me a 5 for two points and I walk in with 42 points.

We finish 3rd overall, but my 42 points gets me a 1.6 cut to 21.8, my lowest ever h/c and follows a 1.2 cut I received at the beginning of the month. The 24.5 I was then seems a long time ago, and my goal of 22 h/c by the end the season has been achieved. What a great weekend……….

well done fred, but i have to say if i'd played against you on that form i would have suggested mexican bloody somewhere down your family tree. nice to see you hit the lowest ever hc too.

How do you get a cut if it is a 3 man team event

All individual scores counted in the team event so we all putted out. I asked our handicap secretary if i could hand in my card as a supplemary card for handicap purposes, and he said OK. He returned later saying that I had been cut 1.6.

The annoying thing is the hole I blobbed (5th) is our stroke index 18, although it is harded than it seems, it was a hole I parred on the saturday, with two iron shots to within 20 feet and a two putt par to win the hole.
