Grassroots Football Sin bins

Maybe if the players behaved like adults there wouldn't be such an issue.

Absolutely never the fault of the 22 players, absolutely always down to the referee. If the players know the rules as well as they claim to, which is always better than the referee, why does anyone need to speak to the referee for an explanation?

Unbelievable Jeff.
Just read what you want to read? I said some refs not all. I also said those that take it too far deserve to get the sin bin. I'm just sharing my concerns as someone who will actually have to experience this rule change. Not as an old duffer who thought football was better in the 60s anyway.

Sorry but this kind of comment always makes me wince. You are playing Sunday football - the standard is crap. But you expect Sunday League referees to get everything right.
I didn't say I expect them to get every decision right, that's not the case at all. When we have refs who talk to us sensibly we have absolutely no problems in the game. If they make a bad call and we ask them how they can give that, the ones that explain what they thought they saw are fine, and we get on with the game. A lot of refs just tell you to shut up and go away though, and that's when frustration builds on both teams and games get out of hand.

Maybe you need to re-read your posts because the first one very clearly doesn’t say some refs, it says the refs are terrible. The some only comes at the very last part. I’ve played Sunday League and seen how the weekend warriors behave, and I’ve yet to see a player be told to shut up who didn’t deserve it, or worse.

Spot on
Having played rugby and football, the best refs were always the ones who talked to you through the match, explained their decision, and didn't get intimidated by an angry full back.
They have a difficult task and get my respect.

As an observation, the best officials in my amateur sporting time were the talkers. As we hear in rugby on the mics, they explain decisions on the go. Even if you didn't agree you understood why they gave it and games ran smoother.

No excuse ever for giving lip to officials though.

RH just beat me to it 👍

I totally agree re. the talkers but my overriding experience of playing football at a pretty good standard on Saturday and Sunday is that the first few words to come out of a footballers mouth are expletives towards a referees decision, even if the decision is a correct one.

There's far more respect for a referee in rugby than there ever is in football.
