Hi fellas,
will keep this simple. I'm going to get a GPS soon. I've narrowed it down to three
models & I need your thoughts/votes as I hold you all in such high esteem :smirk:.

Skycaddie SGX.........V.........Shotmiser G700.........V.........Garmin Approach G5

Thanks guys & gals,

Slime.

I have the SC5. If I was in the market for something new I'd look at the Garmin 5. No fees and I like the functionality of being able to measure to a specific point. Ideal for lay up, temp green positions, playing back from uncharted parts of the course, taking on carrys etc plust the fact I'm getting peeved withthe SC charge.

If you are willing to pay the price of an SGX then I would advise you to buy the GolfBuddy World Platinum which will work out the same price by the time you pay the first years fee and after that you will be saving money as no subscriptions with Golf Buddy World Platinum

Plus it has over 40,000 courses worldwide and no need to download courses as they are already all preinstalled.

Just use an Android app. Cost nowt or very little. Can us in comps. Has as much info as you need.

Don't have a smart phone.............don't much want one either.
I find myself being drawn to the Shotmiser G700, anyone got any experience of this unit?
It's subscription free which I find quite appealing.
It also has several of my local courses plus the one in Spain that I'm going to in May........to beat my brother!

I'm quite happy to admit that my skycaddie 2.5 is not the best there is but its 100% perfect for all that I want and need.

Won't be changing or upgrading any time soon.

If you can live without the distances to hazards etc I'd suggest the Garmin S1 watch. It only gives front, centre and back of green but it's very accurate, no subscriptions and the ease of use make it well worth a look (plus they're going for around £145). I couldn't do without mine after 18 months of use.

Have to say I'm happy with my Approach G5, no subscriptions, thousands of courses all over Europe preloaded, and the ability to get a yardage to any part of the course you like, not just preset ones like hazards.

I've been looking at this as well this week and like Slime the G5 and SGX are models I've taken a look at.

Lots of people here championing one model, is there anyone who's tried more than one make and can compare them? For example, there seem to be differences in database size, Skycaddie looks to have much better coverage than Garmin?

One other question that I'm interested in - for those of you that have the top-end models that will gather stats on your round, do you actually use that feature? As far as I can see, that's the main advantage that the step up to the premium models gives you, or am I over-simplifying there?
