Hi all,

Apologies for another GPS thread but am looking for anyone who has used some of the newer models to market and couldnt find anything when searching.

Ideally I dont want to pay an ongoing sub which rules out Skycaddie. I have narrowed it down to the following 3:

Sonocaddie V350
Garmin G5
Golf Buddy World Platinum

(these 3 mainly because they offer a full hole view)

Cost wise there seems little to choose between them and whilst there are small negatives about each it seems that they are pretty much comparable with each other.

Does anyone own any of these 3 models and if so would they recommend them and is there anything they think they miss that they should have on them?

many thanks in advance

I've got the sonocaddie v300 and its a cracking piece of kit so i would've thought the newer version would be just as good if not better.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply, I like to travel around the UK a fair bit to play so would not want to be restricted on number of courses.

Stuart

Many thanks for your comments

Hi Stuart no problem. The Shotmiser charges you per course download so it's great for people like me who don't play many. I think the Garmin has similar functionality so you can find the distance to any point on the course which I find really helpful. Good luck with your search.

In the same boat myself & narrowed it down to the following
- Golf Buddy World Platinum
- Sonocaddie V500

Neither of these charge annual subs or per course downloads, the V500 is due to be released shortly and is supposed to have a lot more features than the V350, I'm probably going to go for the Golf Buddy as I can get it now (no-one likes waiting for new toys).

sonocaddie is completley free and holds about 30 tracks i think

I currently have a Skycaddie, but am very interested in which subscription free unit you decide on as I detest the annual fee and will be looking to replace it soon.

I looked at the Golfbuddy platinum when I was in the US earlier this year and found that if you have fat fingers like mine, you will find that using a tee to select items on the screen makes life a lot easier and I suspect a lot less frustrating :)

Once I did start using a tee, it was really easy to use.

Bearing in mind I was in a store, I tried to get my home course in the UK up on the screen - we were unable to get the hole view. Maybe the unit needed updating as I notice they updated the course in July, maybe it will only bring up the view when you are at the course. I suspect the first reason is the more likely one. What this says to me is that you will probably need to connect to the internet and sync the course database as soon as you have charged the battery.

Good luck with your search and please keep us informed of your purchase and experiences.

Good luck Fundy - interested to know out of those 3 and the Shotmiser which you choose as they are the ones that I have been researching. I really liked the look of the Shotmiser but I saw the others look to have similar style and features and no costs.

Noy a stand alone device, I'll grant you, but I have Golfshot on my iPhone.

It's got over 30,000 courses here and abroad (I think you can add your own as well), has satellite images so you can assess distances to any part of every hole, stores all sorts of stats along with scorecards and effectively tracks your handicap based on every round you submit.

The price? £14 with no annual fee. It's more than adequate.

I just bought a Sonocaddie Autoplay of fleebay for £150. Not the most advanced machine in the world but it gives you all the information you need. No annual subs which is good, you can record how far you hit each club, keeps your on course stats and scorecard and gives you 5 positions on each geren.

I was looking at skycaddie but the annual subs put me off.

Snooper Shotsaver 320S, does all the important stuff that SkyCaddie does, but no annual fee, and the option of being a sat nav as well, all for under £200.
