Hi Newbie Here

Just started playing again after a 10 year sabbatical.

Smartphones were not even invented the last time I played & practiced so this ability to easily video and analise my swing is a whole new world.

Anybody recommend a free or low cost gps android app for distances and recording stats

Did similar a few years back. 460cc drivers, hybrids, wedges by lofts all good fun.

Used freecaddie on android for a while. Don't know if still do it but if a course wasn't mapped you could DIY it.
Have a basic gps watch now but still occasionally supplement on an unfamiliar course where appropriate.

I've used Hole 19.
It's decent,but drains phone battery.

I used 'swing by swing' at first which was pretty good but I am planning on getting a game golf unit soon so I moved to the game golf app to start getting some stats in there.

The game golf app is pretty intrusive to the game if you use it fully (getting phone out for every shot to select which club your hitting). the swing by swing app is less intrusive I found.

Another nod for the game golf app, it is intrusive when you use it fully. But for winter I generally just tag my shot off the tee, and it then gives you the yardages for front back and middle as you approach green. Obviously you wouldn't want to upload that round so just discard the round when your done so it doesn't dilute your stats, if your a stats man that is. Going to get the actual Game Golf unit for summer, couldn't use the app for many full rounds. Constantly got your phone in your hand

Game golf is pretty good. I have the classic version as I don't seen the need to measure my drives, check my stats or my score which is what the newer live offers. Still a good product
