I don't know if young Mr Hopper would agree with me here but what problem do you think I am most asked for help with?

I'm asked about this from ALL standards of golfer btw.

Is it a cure for a slice? Hook? Shank? Bunkers?
And no, it's nothing to do with mars bars

The problem I am most asked about is..........

CONSISTENCY

Time and time again you read how someone has 16 brilliant holes and 2 shockers.
Do you wonder how you can play so well on Saturday and rubbish on Sunday?
Does anyone else feel this way and if so, how do you try and stop those bad ones that come from nowhere.
Even Golfstick was complaining about he needs to be more consistant with his game and hes off about 1?

Your thoughts would be appreciated. :)

Is it because you don't teach stack and tilt?

Or, is it because most golfers don't have it between the ears to make 18 holes of solid golf.

No, it's pretty simple really, it's because most are not good enough!

I have the shots to birdie every hole on my home track, and have done so at some point or other, but I'm nowhere near good enough to be able to even come close to doing that all in the same round.

So I reckon the answer is practice and get better, so you can be more consistent!

Think it has to do with a lot of what's been said, you have to practice to have the shots and practice properly not just bashing balls, and agree with Murph that it is between the ears, no good practising and having the shots if you can't do it under pressure.

Couldnt agree more! Its my biggest problem for sure.Hopefully my busier practice routine for the new year will help.Practice, practice, practice! :D

I reckon the key to consistency is concentration.
If you're able to hit all the shots to birdie all the holes on your course or even if you can only hit the shots to bogey them, then the answer must lie in the ability - or lack thereof - to fully concentrate and focus on the job in hand. A slight wander of the mind and the ball's OB.

As the great Roy Castle once said. 'Dedication is all you need'.

Fine if you have money behind you, but for most of us, golf is just a hobby. Yes, one we want to get better at, but other factors are involved. Job, family, time and money, conspire against us.

Putting bread on the table takes priority for most of us, so getting 'consistent' at this game, and that's what it is, takes a back seat.

Yes, we'd all love to be as low a h'capper as we can, but let's be honest about this. Most of us lack the time, money, ability, or dare I say it the commitment to reach our full potential.

As frustrating as it is. Perhaps we have to accept golf for what it is to us. A hobby, and we may never reach our full potential without that commitment and dedication that's required.

Sorry to have rambled. Several glasses of very nice red!!

I agree with this , but would also add that to be consistent you have to have a repeatable swing. If you want to be consistent you need to hit it the same way every time, whether you hit in to out or out to in......however you get the ball around the course it sounds too simple but you need to swing the same to be consistent.

Most of us tinker far too much with how we swing the club, dont practice enough to engrain a swing change and then wonder why we are inconsistent. I for one am guilty of trying to change my swing too often.

Good post Bob.
Apart from the holy grail of a repeatable swing, what we probably all need to do is learn how to play the course. I had a teaching pro at Inverclyde, David Scott, walk round with me and another chap at Largs once and that was a real eye opener. he made us think of what and how we played each shot. Why we played it and what had happened to us if we didn't pull it off.

Some of my best golf ever was played after taking on board the advice given that day.
